Series 8 already tapped for water gauge?? + would exhaust leak from here? Pics

Hi first up is that thermostat housing already tapped for a water gauge. And two I think this is the big turbo waste gate missing a bolt. Would this be why smoke goes into my engine bay on a smokey cold start? I'm leaving the car on jackstands over night to check in the morning for any fluid leaks as it smells like coolant but pls advise.

I can't see the 2nd pic but as for the first pic, NO. That wouldn't give you a good reading anyway because its not in the flow of the coolant. I can't remember if those were production holes or if they were special OEM Diagnostic tool attachment ports.

Short answer, NO.

Bolt missing. Looks like it's the wastegate anyone seen it before. This is my first fd & first turbo car.

That looks like it is on the actuator that opens and closes the waste gate. I would put a bolt in there for sure. If its loose it will cause the exhaust to escape prematurely causing a loss of boost.

Thanks mate. I've had exhaust come out the engine bay during cold start.

I dont know if that would cause an exhaust leak but you should still get a bolt in there! :-)

What hose is that? It does not look like it would be related to exhaust.

It's turbo to water pump hose. I guess I was still speculating at time of post.
