Semi-dumb question - good source for midpipe bolts?

Hey everyone -

I'm going to be doing some experiments with a midpipe coming up. Long-term, one thing I do NOT want is goofy hardware store bolts and nuts holding the flanges together - I'm funny like that .

I'd really like to get the bolts/nuts like Racing Beat includes with their exhausts. Bright plated, flanged fasteners, the right size, and you can use standard tools on 'em (either 14mm or 17mm). I might call RB up and see how much they'd want for the bolts themselves .

Again, I'm looking for QUALITY METRIC fasteners, not US fasteners, and not goofy ones with 15mm heads or some stuff.

Any input?

Dale

Dale,

I believe Rotary Performance down in TX has a bolt kit for their Bonez midpipes/hi-flo cats. I'd check for you but it appears their site is currently having problems. I don't have my old receipt from when I ordered my exhaust system from them (about 5 years ago ) but I believe they had a separate bolt kit.

There was a shop at Sevenstock that had some really nice ones. I think I have the business card in the truck. I'm not shure if the vendors are posted on the 7stock web site.

Kyle - yeah, I've seen RP's kits, but it's a bolt and gasket kit for $20. A bit pricey, and I can't remember what the bolts are like in the kit. Not to mention I have gaskets out the wahoo.

GoRacer - if you can find out that vendor, I'd mucho appreciate it!

BoltDepot.com has some bolts that might do the trick. The dumb thing is I can picture in my mind exactly what I'm looking for, but just don't know a source .

While we're on the topic, what's the best specs for exhaust fasteners? I seem to remember that stainless actually wasn't the best material for exhaust hardware, but I can't remember the rationale.

As long as whatever you pick will not corrode, just make sure to get something off a good high grade. I don't think I would grab anything lower than an 10.9 grade (which is what came in the RX7.com kit).

Did the kit from RP have that shiny gold plating? That's the sort of bolts I'm looking for, and BoltDepot shows the 10.9's have a gold plating.

Hmm.

I'm gonna call RB here in a bit and see if they sell the bolts separately.

Nope, they were just standard hardened SS bolts.
