In search of a Motor

Im buying a 93 tt off one of my friends. It has a bad motor. Im taking it to KDR to get worked on. The guy from KDR suggested getting a JDM motor for it. I was told you can sometimes get a motor with turbos pretty cheap that way. Does anyone know of a good creditable place to find one of these motors or know where i could get a good motor for this car? I live in Ephrata Pa. If anyone has anything local please contact me. Thank you- Joe

I bought my engine from malloy mazda. If you have a core to swap, you can get a reman pretty decently priced.

Or you could check out some of the companies that do rebuilds and get an engine built to your specs. Then there is no guesswork on what you have in your car. I have heard both good and bad luck stories from buying a used engine with no warranty or guaranteed condition.

Hey Joe, I see you're local to me. My advice would be to buy a Mazda Reman from Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda--his contact info is all over this forum-- then send it to Rich and Ihor at IRP in Clifton, NJ to get ported(or not) and rebuilt.

Ebay motors from canada?

I was searching around on ebay and found a bunch of jdm motors for under 2grand. The companies look some what creditable and have good feedback. They say all the motors are tested before they get sent. Any experience or thoughts?

Seriously, dude. Don't try cheaping out. Japan2LA is the only person I'd suggest buying a JDM motor from, and even then I'd get it rebuilt. You're best off just getting a reman. With a reman and having the reman rebuilt. With a reman, everything will be new or atleast in spec. The parts the use are good, it's the actual engine assembly that they screw up. Which is whi you get it rebuilt at IRP.

By the way, this friend's FD that you're looking to buy, it doesn't happen to be a 94 Montego Blue(dark blue/green/blackish) PEP(sunroof, leather seats), does it?

nah, Its a black 93 with tan leather interior. It was on the front page of the auto locator a couple months back. Its got 90K on it, The paint is a lil faded but it should buff out. The interior is mint, looks like its got 10K on it. It still has the spare tire and jack. I dont think the spare was ever used. Im pretty excited about the whole deal. I have always wanted an rx-7. I want to do some things to spice it up a bit. not sure what yet. I want it to be reliable even though its not going to be an everyday driver. I would be happy with 300 to 350whp
Also im trying to sell my 91 300zx if you know anyone that would be interested.
Here's some pics of it. http://www.300zxclub.com/showthread.php?t=125160

I have a want ad on 3zc, but I don't want a 2+2, or an N/A, or a tan interior. Sorry man. I'll ask my friend's brother if he's interested though.

Looks clean, but $6500 is a lot for a 2+2, considering TTs in this area go for 8500.

I've seen that black one running around 322 in Ephrata. It's an auto, right? He picked it up from that shady place that has all those Japanese sports cars on 272?

I know $6500 sounds like a lot but it gives me some room to get knocked down a little and still be happy.

Nah the Rx7 is a 5spd. By buddy Kevin from "wybles used cars" in new holland bought it from a kid in york. Kevin was gonna fix it and resell it but he just got a 97 black on black 6spd supra and lost interest in the rx7. So he's gonna sell it to me for $8500. I figured i could have it running again with about $12,000 or $13,000 in it. It hasnt been running for a little while. i would never buy anything that came those crooks your talking about on 272 sams auto i think their called

Yeah, Sam's Auto. I don't know of anyone who has bought any cars from they, but that place is shady as hell.

You can get it running again for $4500, assuming it doesn't have any underlying issues. Does it have an engine already in it? The JDM engines aren't a direct swap and they are ultimately the same internaly(like buying a JDM VG30).

Some things you'll need to plan for with 90k on the clock; New wiring harness, new turbos, suspension bushings, Injectors clean/flowtested and possibly replaced(it'd be really stupid to drop all that money on a new engine and have a $100 injector stick and cause you to lean out under boost), radiator, AST, FPR, FPD.

Some of those things are very cheap, some are very pricey. Just make sure you budget with the knowledge that it is a 15 year old car and parts will fail.

I haven't seen any MKIVs around. I hope I can catch him on 222 after I'm tuned
