screwing off :: busting parts

Last night was my semi-weekly car night-- I took her out around 11-12 and drove around town looking for a race, didnt find any so i went to the industrial park to take the turns and get a better feel for my car's limits...was fun... but i wanted more. I went up to PV to go through the mountain pass....excellent uphill/downhill run... but i still wasnt satisfied... a few top speed runs would do the trick... the highway was empty and it was cold that night... I bring it up to 140 and cruise at that speed momentarily...ok enoughs enough and i decide and i slow to 80... i feel much better, but when i look in my rear view mirror, I see telltale rectangular headlights coming off an onramp very fast and starting to gain ground. ****!

I figured it was a cop who clocked me on radar from the onramp...he was a good mile away, so i saw it as a big window of opportunity. there was a small hill about 1/4 mile away which would stop him from getting a visual on me if I got over it in time...I decide to punch it and do another high RPM run...Im at 110mph in 4th when i hear a slight creak/grind from the engine bay...wtf? the exit is coming up and im over the hill and he cant see me. A few long seconds pass and the exit comes up...I take it and look in my mirror and he just crested the hill...i bolt through the exit and all is well... i go down the road and he never exits. Whew! I laugh all the way to the next light when I remember the creak....im stopped and my car is vibrating a lot. ****...did i blow a seal? hmmm idle and vacuum are good, temp is ok...just this vibration at idle.

I think I busted a motor mount since the sound came from the drivers side of the engine bay...that or I fouled my plugs big time by all those high rpm runs that night. any ideas? Power comes on smoothly as usual. Gonna jack it up when i get home, but any ideas would be apreciated.

What a night. Great runs, got away and was listening to the perfect track during the getaway due to TTT's mp3 post...i decided to record a tape of my BBS CD... Boom Boom Satellites - On a Painted Desert was playing at the time. I felt so cool although what i did would warrant me being a dumbass

Que sera sera I suppose :p

checked out the car today, and it seems that the spark plugs were to blame... a couple of the leading plugs' electrodes got dislodged and were all fouled up. Another plug had 'something' lodged in between one of the spaces...that one got me a lil worried. After putting some fresh ones in, the car is running quite a bit smoother.

maybe that car was a 5.0 mustang. i always confuse them for cops cause of the shitty headlights. When they are at a distance they look like cops. So either way you should have did what you did cause mustangs arent really too much fun anyways

Chevy Caprices have the ambers between the headlights, but don't all the cops out here have "Police Interceptors" (aka Mercury Grand Marquis) which have the ambers on the outside of the headlights?

Other cars that I used to commonly mistake for cop cars back when I lived in NM with nothing but caprice's (and the occasional camero): Lincoln Town Cars, Chevy Corsicas (which can also be cop cars), Saturns, most Buiks.... not that I ever payed attention. heheh

Hope there doesn't turn out to be anything wrong with the engine.

PS - got the new Boom Boom Satellites in today, but I think I'm going to give it to a very good friend for his b-day. I'll order another one.

BrianK> you think Mitsuwa Market carries it?

Every day I mistake those damn Lincoln Towncars for cops.. ARGH some owners of those cars know they look like cops and try to psych you out

I think I might have burned off a chunk of carbon in the process...car feels the same, same power...but im gonna get a compression check just for peace of mind. Im gonna pick up my downpipe as well because i think my airpump is going bad and the stock precat could be causing some excess carbon buildup. I was at 7.8 and 7.6 compression when i bought the car so i'll see what kind of difference 10,000 miles has done to it. I have an extended warranty and really wouldnt mind rebuilding the engine....its just dealing with the damn warranty company
