scratching sound when starting

hey guys

About 1/10 times i get a really light scratching noise when i start my FD, the only thing i can think of to compare it to is almost as if i was holding the key to long. But im not.

any ideas?

It does it for a split second when you start the car right? Its just everything starting up.

Possibly a sticking starter solenoid...not disengaging quickly enough amd resulting in a sound similar to leaving the key turned too long.

IF that is your problem, it should be fixed asap. It will likely get worse and wear the teeth on both the flywheel and starter .

sounds like u either chipped teeth on ur starter or your flywheel

Have you looked at your starter? I had a similar issue and discovered that, for any number of reasons, my starter was only held in with one bolt. I'm not saying I was unhappy with the recent workmanship on my car, but...

From the sound you describe it could be any number of things. Take it to a reputable rotary mechanic in your area.

Ive got a similar noise you describe on my car, which has been tuned by two rx7 workshops overhere and they both said its just normal.
