Scratched housings

I need help guys... Just got the Rotary aviation master rebuild kit... Was about to put everything together when i noticed there is a scratch on one of my rotor housings.. The scratch is 1.5" away from the exhuast port and is not very deep but it can be felt if i move my finger over it....

Its the same with one of my intermediate housings... Slight scratch near the corner long but not deep... else is all good...

I called a few people up and might get a better rotor housing still not sure if i will... But no intermediate housing available... should i go ahead with the rebuild with these housings... Please recommend....

Need help
Thanks

I normally tell people to forget about rebuilds unless they are prepared for this. Most remans from Mazda come with new housings and there is a reason for it... Very few are worth reusing because of wear, scoring or warping.

I'd suggest getting new housings or getting the ones you have tested by a shop to see if they are within spec. Anything less and you risk building a motor with less than perfect parts, which in my opinion is a waste of time and money.

Why are you rebuilding it anyway? What was the original problem or are you just upgrading?

Will it be ok if i just get a new rotor housing and use the old intermediate housing... Does a minor scratch on the intermediate housing means alot??

Also are the front and rear housings different.. i thought only the front and rear rotors were different..

Yaar, you need to check the tolerances. You might be mistaking the scratch for the side seal step on the side housing, as for the rotor housings these should be replaced as a matter of course on engines which have any sort of decent mileage on them IMO.

Definitely get new rotor housings. The intermediate is more than likely in good condition, even with the scratch.

Jspec took your advice and found a good rotor housing off of a friends car.. he is getting a complete engine...I have one more question... how do u tell if a housing is front or rear.. or are they both the same.. Cuz i don't know if the two good ones i have are a rear one and a front one... Please please tell me they are both the same...

thanks

Get the iron lapped, get new rotor housings (front and rear are identical), and call it a day..

BTW:
Good luck on finding the housings, I hear they're getting harder and harder to get.

Call up rotary performance in Garland Texas. They can lap your Irons for very cheap, and they are known for very good work. Im not sure exactly what they do but I know they take off a very small amount of material from the housing, in essance, smooting it out. Simmilar to turning rotors (brake rotors ).

Housings are the same other than the small ports for emmisions purposes, they can be switched no probs though, but they're labelled F & R if you wanna get them the right way round which if you are in Pakistan won't matter.

So yaar, your really in Pakistan?
