Scoot Hood Feedback
I've had my hood for about 2 weeks now and wanted to weigh in on my impressions...
- I ordered from Rotary Extreme the Scoot Replica Fiberglass hood. It came in about 4 months ago and I was a little concerned it wouln't look that great. It was like $1150. I opted for FG because CF was out of stock and I was painting it anyway.
- The hood looks absolutely fantastic painted. It is far better looking than I ever expected once on the car and painted. You can see the large intercooler and the piping from the side and it looks mean and sleek. Not a day goes by without someone commenting on it.
- overall the fitment was not that great. The one side had a more pronounced bow in it but the body shop guy worked it out. It was a toss up as to what component I gave him was the worst to fit : The hood, the MB bumper, or the Audi TT gas door. Cost me only a bottle of Wild Turkey Extra though...
- We got my strut bar to work by simply cutting through the air channel to the back. For my strut bar, the minor identation was not even close. To me this was no big deal because my plan is to route the air from the duct through the IC anyway and blocking off the 'normal' channel to the back. I just want to plan it all out before I start cutting into where you can actually see the cuts.
- The rain guards supplied were no way going to fit the car with the intercooler there. I have the Pettit Coolcharge 3 "large" SMIC which I believe is a replica of the M2 Large SMIC. I wouldn't have used them anyway but be warned
- I 'needed' hood pins. I used the red anodized Sparco ones to match my red and they actually make it look even better probably. We'll see how they hold up but they work great and kinda add to the aggresiveness.
- The hood now fits really well except there is a gap (but an even gap) between the bumper and the hood.
- My air temperatures plummeted. At around 70-74F outside, my car was consistently in the 60's C read off my datalogit. I am now in the upper 40's under same conditions. Oil temps went from low 90's/high 80's to low 70's, sometimes 60s. I am sure my front bumper contributed to this as well with the larger oil cooler ducts and the cf ducts themselves in. Water temp seems to hover more about 83-84 instead of 85-88.
All in all I would not hesistate to purchase this again. It looked cheap when it arrived but my car with it, the front bumper, and yeah, the fresh paint helps, looks like a brand new car and no one knows what on earth it is. I use to get the 'what car is this' like we all know and love but now its at a new level. Executive types, professional looking wives at the mall parking lot, everyone at the gas stations, employees at the post office, and people at the stop light for the last 2 weeks keep asking me. I had a lady drag her husband over to my car a few hours ago while I was on phone outside it to walk around it and wait for me to get off my call to ask me what on earth it was (my Mazda emblems are off from the paint job, only a single Effini symbol is on it) . [Too bad she was with her dweeb husband , she was definite MILF]
A highly recommended addition after the standard modding. I feel like I'm in a Ferrari or Viper with the looks I get (even with the stocker wheels still on...).

yeah, yeah, yeah...I had it coming. Should of had the pics first but this was my first opportunity to spend much time surfing in the past weeks and its too late to snap pictures or find my camera. I was just analyzing my datalogs and reflecting on the past days gawking...
Will post them de la manana. It's been nice weather here so I should have some good ones (that MB bumper though is soooooo low and has small cracks in it now. Thank god its so cheap... I may have to keep a few spare ones )

yeah i got mine for about 3 months now... it's great!!! yeah like you, there really isn't a day goes by without someone giving me thumbs up. looks great, cools great, but the fitting is not so good. the driver side hood to the fender is not fitted very well. it sticks up about 1/4 inch. thinking about selling it to get the real thing. they also told me that this hood was limited to 500. but i don't think it is anymore. if i were do it again.. i'd go for the real thing. just my .02

Is anyone for sure that the real hood wouldn't have the same fitment issues as the replicas?? I wouldn't mind paying the extra $600 if it fits right, but if not then why waste the money??

BTW :
The hood gap in the pictures is not as bad as the photos show either...I intetionally took them at angles
showing the gap. You really don't notice it at all unless
you are looking for it. But it does exist.
