hood adjustment

The gap on your hood at the front is bigger than normal. It might be due to the aftermarket bumper that you bought. Put back the stock hood and compare and see how it is. You should have drilled the holes on the hinges larger so you can move the hood forward but it's too late now. You already installed the hood pins without making the adjustment first. I have the instruction on getting the hood fitted and adjusted on my website. I guess you didn't read those before you put on the hood. It still looks good though.

I didn't do the work...however I think the guy did a great job with all the aftermarket crap I have given him before and I give him the benefit that, at least with that bumper which fits poorly as shipped, he did the best job that could have been done. The gap really is not at all an issue to me and is smaller in person. It very well could be the bumper...it's a cheap and flimsy bumper but it looks terrific and it costs $250, not $2,000. [ I'm going to destroy anything with a lip on it eventually anyways]

There was however a distinct curvature issue on the passenger side of the hood and before my guy worked it out, there was a pronounced bowing there that was not acceptable. It sat in my office for a few months but I doubt the bowing happened there.

Again, I recommend the hood and am exceptionally pleased with it on my car.. It was however not without its hitches. If I had to do it again I would still save the money and buy the replica from you again so don't think I'm slamming your hood I'm simply trying to give an objective assessment in all aspects.

Re: Re: hood adjustment

I am very open to objective suggestions. Those suggestions help me to improve the quality of future products. If I don't have any customer feedback, I have no idea how they view my products and how they like them. Your suggestion is helpful along with all the other customers'. Thank you.

This has always been my favorite hood. I have heard many problems though on fitment. I have been searching around a lot and I still haven't been able to find the original scoot hood. All I can ever find is the replicas. Car looks good though man. Nice job.

I think JT-imports has the original scoot hood. Well it says Scoot Air Duct bonnet... FRP aero bonnet, White gel coated to a finish... For $1750.
Which hood is suppose to fit better? The original or the replica?

i've read elsewhere on here that the originals have fitment issues too, because like mentioned earlier in this thread, all FD's can have different fitments. it's my understanding, and someone correct me if i'm wrong, that just about any aftermarket hood has the potential for fitment problems just depending on your particular car. and the car looks great david

Origianl has more fitment issues at least the one I got. You can go to

http://www.rotaryextreme.com/scoothood.html

At the bottom of the page, I have a few pictures to show the fitment of the original Scoot hood. The one I got to make the replica was already sold. If any of you who strongly believes the original will fit better, I can import you one for $1600 and you can see it yourself It's always on back order in Japan. Be prepared to wait at least 3-4 months to get it.

Here is another pic of the hood. It fits fine with the right body guy doing the work, I commend Chuck for the quality of some of his products.

Trust me, the gap is irrelevant. I'll say it a million times but in person you only see it if you are looking for it. it's a about 2 mm too much... the pics I took exaggerate it and it could be do to the bumper as well.

The fitment issue I had was the passenger side curvature being a little off but it too is a non issue now. [And the strut tower bar but I already knew that I would need to cut for it to fit mine. ]No biggie.

For the cost difference of $1600 and $1150, I would choose the replica. There are no assurances you won't have some minor hitches with the original and $450 is $450 that can be better used elsewhere. And you don't have to wait/depend on Japan. I've waited 6 months for product before and still no luck before canceling.

I think this guy used a block or something as a brace to straighten it out. Whatever he did there is no curve issue at all now. Everything is level and even.
