If you can afford the extra funds, go for the series-8.

I have owned a "Type-RS" version for a while now & have to tell you that they worked hard to sort out all the bugs from the series-6 (92-95). The series-8 turns better, feels better, stops better & as long as you get the top line "Type-RS" it goes better.

Worth the extra money to ensure you have the "Type-RS" too. Forget the "Type-RB" or "Type-RBs" as you miss out on too many goodies. Yes, the series-8 turbos are a reliability issue but will be fine as long as you dont exceed 1-bar boost. (0.9 recommended)

Forget the "Oz spec" series-7 (96-98) as they are nothing like the JDM version series-7. Remember, a 92 model "series-6" is now 13 years old. Compared to a 3 year old "series-8" from 2002, you kind of get the picture.

Base FD manufactured from October 1991 to February 1995 are 15cm longer than R1/R2 or Touring of the same year?

is that what is says here:

http://www.j-garage.com/mazda/rx-7/1991-1.htm

when Type S (base?) is listed at 4295 vs 4280 cm... 15cm seems like a lot. is this true?
