FD eating coolant

I was driving the FD about a month ago and i blew the hose that goes from the water pump to the stock twins....after i repaired that hose everything seemed to be fine.....but here recently every morning the car whines for coolant when i start it up....the car isnt overheating but the low coolant buzzing noise is driving me insane.....also i can fill it up in the morning...but once i let the car sit for about 2-3 hours without running itll again indicate that the coolant is low......ive checked the tube and seen no indication of a spill or dripping....also there is no smell of burning coolant and no white smoke....and there is no puddle underneath the car from sitting and dripping coolant....can someone please help me out soon b/c i hope there isnt any internal engine damage....thanks...parker

You need to check a bit more carefully. The leak is just somewhere you haven't found yet. Have you checked the return line, or the ones that run to the TB? Your heater core? The coolant doesn't just disappear into thin air...

A small pinhole leak in a hose may not be leaking coolant, but may be sucking air back in on cooldown, preventing the car from sucking coolant back from the overflow tank. Could also be caused by a dodgy pressure cap on the AST. Check you're overflow tank, if it's fullish then that could well be your problem.

I reckon the flavour of advice you'll get in this thread will be.....

1. Change the pressure cap on the AST (cheap and easy, make sure you use a 13lb cap)

2. Pressure test the system to make leaks obvious.

Usually your overflow resivoir will eventually fill up with the coolant that's being pushed into it and not being drawn back into the system. When you continually have to add coolant then it's going some where and then drawing back air instead of the coolant. It could be a pin hole leak in a hose and may not be displacing allot of coolant at once. Try pressure testing the cooling system and seef if there's something obvious. Good luck with the search, Jack

Actually that's good advice - I had coolant leaking from my throttle body lines (after temp sender install) and pooling on top of the engine. It was only a small leak, so none made it to the ground under the car, but it was enough to trip the buzzer. It was also difficult to see. The only reason I found it was because I'd just finished my temp sender install, so it was the obvious place to look.
