Question RZ tranny

I've heard alot of people talking about switching to this tranny lately. I'm just wondering what the big deal is with it? Is it really that much better/stronger than the tranny's in our USDM 7's?? Thanx in advance everyone.

Mazda fixed the 5th gear synchro in 96 I believe, and the 5th gear is also closer to the 4th for better acceleration in hwy(not that you'd need to go full blast at 140 mph anyway).

Anyone have any idea as to the price on an RZ tranny? I have a few places I could probably source one since I have friends stationed in Japan, but if you know of a place that has them and has fairly decent prices it would probably be easier to do business with them. I'm afraid that my friends over there aren't real big 7 fans and therefore don't know much about them.

Well, you can get the 5th gear "fix" from any Mazda dealer for about $25. Its nothing but a spring and you dont even have to go into the case to change it out.

Also as mentioned before the 5th gear is a little lower. This means your 5th will have SLIGHTLY better accelleration but your top speed would be lower. HOWEVER, the difference in the 2 gears isnt much at all. I think the 93-95 is .71 and the RZ is .76 or something about like that. Its not a big deal

Also, be leary of someone giving you a great deal on a RZ tranny with low miles. I've seen one of there "6000 mile" RZ trannies and it looks to me like they left a zero off it.

well, me and buddy of mine recently purchased so called RZ tranny.. i can't say where I purchased it until my buddys tranny has been verified.. mine should arrive next couple of months..

Anyhow, recently i been doing research on this RZ and only thing is the slight difference in gear ratio for the 5th.. They look identical except for the s8 version of RZ.. which will have different wiring harness.. Otherwise, only way to tell is to put it in, go on 5th, and check the RPM and speed.... we could then verify the tranny if its the RZ or not.. IF it true RZ tranny, I will pm you with our price and where we purchased the tranny.. I'm currently questioning if the seller sold the right tranny to us or not.. since the part number was not on and as SPOautos said, it did look lot older than 6000 miles..
