rx7 stalls and dies

how long after the ignition is shut off should the fans stay on? it seems like they are on forever?

today for about an hour the 7 was running weird. it would idle rough and die every time i started it. i just order an a/f and boost gauge today so i dont know if it might be a vaccum leak. any suggestions on what to look for

I am having that same problem. When the car is cold or has been sitting for a long time it starts up perfect. But If I let it sit for like 20-30 min. and start it it wont start unless I give it gas and when it does start if I let off the gas it dies again.

depends on how hot the car was. my fans rarely ever stay on after shut down now. i usually cool it down before i arrive at my destination by turning off the a/c and not boosting. this of course, depends on where u live.

now if u come back and put the key in five minutes later, the fans will immediately come on due to heat soak.

what exactly is wrong with your idle and does the car drive fine once your going down the road?

when im heading back home i dont get on it. The problem here is west texas its hot as hell. the car acts up when i start it the idle would go from 3000 to 1500 to 800 then goes down to 300 - 500 and the times that it dies the revs would drop to 100 and stalls, if i give it gas it'll stay on but once i get of the gas it dies. If i decide to drive it i keep my foot on the gas to keep it at 1000 even when not in gear. to fix the problem i sometimes go to WOT in gear, then it acts normal again.

look at the spark plugs make sure they are not fouled. check the plug wires. has the rats nest ever been replaced? it could also possibly be a clogged cat or bad airpump. i would check the plugs and look for serious leaks in the hoses first. worst problem could be as u say, bad AF ratio. could be bad leaky injectors, lots of other stuff. these symptoms happen with the a/c off right.

yes ac is off. the plug wires have been replaced 3000 miles ago according to the reciepts that came with the car. they also look new. the car has after market downpipe and so now precat. i smell a strong odor of gas in the engine compartment so i might look into that tomorrow. my freakin fans stay on with the overheat ex light on even if i drive 3 miles, anybody know whats up with that ?

your exhaust is gettting way too hot. and if you have the scent of gas, it would be best to not drive anymore. its not the sparkplugs and probably not a vacuum leak now.

so why is the exhasut getting way too hot? it seems to be an aftermarket unit with a 3" downpipe and the cat is not near the engine compartment.
