rx7 with pistons

I just wanted to say happy holidays to all of you rx7 owners. I thought you might like to hear a funny story. I was on ebay looking at 3rd gen rx7s for sale and I found a white one in Tampa for a reserve price of 5,000.00 I started to read his ad and he said all the stuff he did to it try and fix a problem with it. He said he took it to a mechanic and the mechanic said he was not getting any oil around the pistons. I e-mailed him back and told him there are no pistons in an rx7 and told him about the motor that was in it. He e-mailed me back and said thanks for the information and he was only going by what his mechanic had said. Two things: One why does he have a car he knows nothing about, two how does the mechanic not know there are no pistons in this motor. Some mechanic. I would be very affraid to buy this car for fear of what the mechanic has already done to the car.

Most people don't know jack about how cars work beyond putting fuel in them. Thats why we have mechanics.

It might not be that bad - it could be the mechanic explained it to him, but the owner was really dense. Like an OMP failure could be explained as saying 'no oil around the rotors', and if the guy didn't know what rotors meant the mechanic might say 'they play the same role as pistons'. Which they do.
