Smile RX-8 seats in the FD

alright I am going to throw this out there, I have read the posts on this subject, but I want to know has anybody tried this yet? do they fit, rails etc? what about the side airbag. they are extremely hot looking seats and would look sweet in the FD if they fit. I did drive an 8 when they came out but don't remember how they felt since I was so high on operating the newest rotary powered vehicle I didn't notice. I think the rotor-shaped headrest would be an awesome site to see through the windshield of the FD. does anybody have any idea on this subject. I really want to see some in a FD. hopefullly someone has accomplished this.

have you installed them in the FD? 300 each is a good price. I have custom racing seats in my FD and it took some modification but I would love to see the 8 seats in the 7. they look just as comfortable as the 7 seats. nice and flat and they also look skinny enough. anybody that has them in their FD, post some pics. I know there is someone out there that has tried this.

I bet there is a way to disengage the side air bag so that does not become an issue. I just love the rotor shaped headrest what can I say.

I think they are very comfortable, I like em better than my FD seats actually.
I don't think the rx-8 seats are that much higher, of course I have a power drivers side seat so that adds some height. I suppose if no one else really has done this I could yank the passenger seat out of my 8 and try to see how well it fits in the FD.

I'll try to do it this weekend. I'll take pictures but it's gonna look a bit odd with my black 8 seats and my tan fd interior...

Yes the one I drove had power and heated driver seat, so maybe it was just adjusted higher.

If your willing to take out your passenger seat go for it! Good luck!

Maybe the fabric seats would be okay, but have you seen the "leather" seats in the RX-8?They've got this knarly ribbed vinyl on either side of the leather section in the center of the seat. Ribs are for condoms, not sportscar seats.

jsplit, you are the man. if they look as sweet as I imagine I am going to figure out how to get them in the FD. Jsplit I can't express in words how much that would help. all it would be is 8 bolts and a little swap-a-roo. its not like he is installing them, just for fun we all want to see if they fit and what they look like. some people do it for the fun and the hope that things will help invoke innovation. this is jsplit. how do you think the seven and eight got here. he is just helping that cause. this is a worthy cause and plus if I were him I would do it too, no big deal, take the seat out and put it in the FD. take a couple of pics and make sure they fit and we have an answer. if it looks good on the other hand then he provided an awesome mod for the F, if not then we can put this thread to bead. no pun intended. thanks again and I look foward to seeing it.

In the RX8 the seat brackets are what makes them so high. Its so the people sitting in the back have a place for their feet=under the front seat. The leather ones aren't too bad, but the cloth ones are not comfortable at all. The seat is probably too wide at the base to fit though.

Heh, wait there's a place to put your feet in the back seat?
Yeah it should be easy to do, just a couple bolts. I think it will look pretty good. If I had a black interior in my FD I'd probably already have gone this route.

I bet you can switch seat rails and do it. how do you think I got my seats in the fd. they sit nice too. low and tight. the seat rails are very easy to get off the stock seats of the FD. I just want to see if the deminsions are going to work. got to see the rotor head rest in the window of the FD. I have looked at pics of the 8 seats and they look skinny enough to fit right. the brackets can be modified. that is not my worrys. just deminsions. Jsplit is doing a lot too help, probably the only person that can since he has an 8 and a 7. I hope to one day be like Jsplit and be the proud owner of both. I will be, you can bet that. once my business gets on its feet. I can't express how happy I am to see jsplit is as curious as I am. thanx man.

by the way I have black rally seats in mine and I have the tan interior and they look awesome. might be better than you expect with the black 8 seats in the tan interior FD. I can't wait to see.

I went over to Mazda and looked at an 8 and did some measuring at the deminsions look good. the only thing I was concerned about was how the brackets are and the drivers power seat. it looks like the seats good be modified to fit the FD, I am not sure how the will sit with the stock brackets? they are a little higher than the FD seats fro mthe floor. looks like the floor is much lower in relation to the seat than the 7. can't wait until jsplit comes back with some info. I definately see that they made the seat brackets in the 8 higher for the back seat passengers feet. gave me a little more insight on this, plus that is one badass car. it needs to go faster and I am in the market for one. the turbo kits are out and can't wait to see what they do.
