Thumbs up RX-7 (FD3S) Reference Photos Project

Hi all,

During the process of rebuilding and reassembling my 3rd Gen RX-7, I made an effort to take photos of the process in order to give myself a point of reference if I ever have to take the car apart again.

I've decided to take these photos, and place them an easy to view format for others to use and enjoy for their own project. Please keep in mind that these are strictly to be used as reference photos, and not an instructional guide to rebuilding your RX-7. I am not a professional engine builder, but I simply found that many times, I would struggle to know just exactly where and how some pieces fit together. This is highly valuable to me, since it took several months to get my engine back, and by that time I had forgotten the specifics.

So if you're rebuilding your RX-7, and simply need an eyeball of how it all fits, then these may help you, but again, remember to use the official repair manuals whenever you get stuck. This will be a continuing project as I have about 200+ photos, here's the first 50 or so, and I plan on organizing it all in a much more helpful way once I'm finished.

Also, because I will be using alot of bandwidth off of my site to host these photos, I'd appreciate it if you just followed the link instead of ganking them. Thanks.

I can't use these photos since I suck at doing anything under the hood but this was really nice of you to do for everyone else. Good job man.

Looks nice. Thanks for including torque specs, that's especially helpful.

Thanks all. I'll have the rest up soon, I just completly spaced about the fact that it was Thanksgiving this week. Kinda got smashed for time. I've completed another 25, but I won't post until I get a set of 50 to make it worth it.

great idea, but upload them to photobucket so it's easier to access them. Then you can organize them really well too.

All photos have been uploaded. If you appreciate this, shoot me some stars on the thread rating! If you're rebuilding your RX-7, and simply need an eyeball of how it all fits, then these may help you, but again, remember to use the official repair manuals whenever you get stuck. This is not a step-by-step and it's not intended to be the end-all, be-all solution for reassembly. It's just photos for reference...as in a "oh this part goes there!" sorta deal.

I only ask that you do not alter or modify the photos without my permission (unless you're correcting it for me to see and update!), and give proper credit where due. This took quite a bit of time to do, so I appreciate your understanding. For those of you who would like these in ZIP format, please right-click-save-as on the following link:

HT RX7 Reference Photos - Zipped

Also, the following connector diagram may help...it's a work-in-progress. If any of you can help fill in the bits, I'd appreciate it. Also, if you have any suggestions, notice any typos, or mistakes, please let me know and I'll update the photos appropriately!

I hope all the hard work helps some of the newbies as well as other discussion here on the RX7club! Thanks!

-Mike K.

wow... Man great photos and very in depth. Boy do I need this. I 'm also in the middle of my own overhaul. By the way, I hope you can help me with this. I'm kind of stuck on the crank shaft keyway. I'm not sure if the keyway suppose to stick out? and if it does how much does it stick out? what's the proper mm? I have another question about the the crank shaft having a loose spring pin sitting in the middle. Is it suppose to be there? And how does it look like? I was trying see if you have any photos of that reassembly. I hope you could help me. Thanks

Alex

I have another question. I notice in your assembly reference pic on the upper intake, Why is the AWS Solenoid blocked(removed)? Is there a reason for that? I just wanted to know. Thanks again.

ArchangelX,

Thanks for your hard work and the excellent photos (I downloaded the zip file). I have one question: What is "ganking," as in
I'd appreciate it if you just followed the link instead of ganking them.
