Running Coolant Only?
I blew a radiator hose last week and I decided to send it to the mechanic to fix it. Its a junkyard/mechanic. This way I got two things done at once. Finish my incomplete interior and fix the hose. Anyways they went ahead and filled it almost entirely with coolant only. Is this ok?? So far it seems to be running ALOT cooler and I seem to be doing alot better on gas too.
Well freezing is not my problem in Miami. Dam 95 degree weather is killer. So anything at all that helps make me cooler sure would help. I guesse if theres no problem with this I'll let is run like this for now.
It will run cooler with water mixed in. Living in south FL you could run 20% coolant/80% water.
If you don't have an aftermarket temp gauge yet, please make this your next mod. My original motor was running strong at 52,000 miles and died due to a half opening thermostat, which would have easily been detected with an accurate temp gauge.

Bad, bad, bad. You should be running hotter, not cooler. Also, if you look on the bottle of most coolants they list a maximum % of coolant. If you're running more than 50% ethyl glycol you're going to have problems.

Ok will do I just finished ordering a bunch of gauges (boost, oil pressure, and A/f) next paycheck I will get a digital temp one. I will also start adding some water to it.
Coolant only will cause the car to run hotter. Coolant is actually worse at heat transfer than water. Mix 60% water 40% coolant at the most in your area.
Coolant is required though, it keeps the aluminum from dissolving due to the iron side plates.

Sorry!
I always take my car to the junk yard mechanic. You never have to worry about any new parts accidentally getting into your car. Plus, you know he's qualified because he works at a junk yard ......right??
