RUNNING *WARMER* w/ new FMIC...HELP! PLEASE!

well, some of you may know that i installed a greddy 2 row fmic 2 weeks ago. during the install, i broke the discharge line on the a/c condenser. well, i have since gotten the condenser fixed and all of the new fittings heli-arc welded, and the condenser is in place.

well, when i went on my way to buy a new collector tank for the a/c, i noticed that the needle on the temp guage was about 1/4 of an inch over the half way mark on the guage. it was only there for a second, and did this a few times. NOT HOT, JUST HIGHER THAN NORMAL. it appears to be happening when i accelerate slightly fast, but not in boost. take in mind that the a/c is still not running, just have the condenser mounted, and lines run.

the under belly is NOT in place, simply because i think that it is useless. i am however, going to fiddle around with it tomorrow, and see if the pan works. however, in the mean time, i would like any suggestions with why my car would read hotter at slight acceleration, but not at idle. it jumps up within a few seconds and when i get off of the throttle, it calms down a little. i am using the stock radiator and the fans are on all of the time....

any help or suggestion in this very important matter is greatly appreciated....

The underbelly pan is not useless, it forces air up to the radiator. Didn't you also run some funky ducting from the passenger side? Take that ducting out and put on your belly pan, seal off the edges of the radiator and you will be fine.. just make sure there is no air in the system.

When I installed my Greddy V-SPL the engine ran hotter. Possible time for a upgrade rad!

thanks mjw.

i am doing this tomorrow. i also purchased a couple of 4" 150cfm fans to set in front of it and add for extra cooling....

someone from an undisclosed tuner shop told me that i might have coolant seal problems. horse-**** if you ask me. the motor is too new, and un abused to have problems....

also, i would like to add my concern of the actual running of the a/c. i know that the condenser for the a/c system is going to radiate A LOT of heat as well. those things are not cool either, and this REALLY concerns me, as far as the saftey and reliability of the engine are concerned....

Louis, you are right in that the ac condenser puts out a lot of heat. On a hot day, sitting in traffic with my ac off the car runs from 180-200 *F. With the ac on in the same situation it runs from 200-215*F. Still safe, but it doesn't instill a warm fuzzy feeling either.
I would also recommend putting the bellypan back on. While you're at it, you can put the aluminum plates on it as seen on www.iluvmyrx7.com That should help. I also would recommend taking off the ducting you made. It was a good idea in theory, but I think it may be blocking the larger volume of air from the front. Did you relocate your radiator? If so, you may want to make a plate on the top to push more air through the radiator. As far as the extra fans go, I would leave them off. If your car stays cool at idle, then your stock fans are doing a good job. I think that ther reason it is heating up under light acceleration is because the engine is producing more heat, but the radiator is not getting more flow.
BTW: I miss your old avatar.
