Question Run without no intercooler!!

i was wondering have any of you guys ever try taking the stock intercooler out and just run from the Y-pipe to the intakmanifold. i was just wandering about it...
well i never tried this before but if any of you guys have let me know. what will happen and how many boost can it run straight thru... i know the air will not be cool when it runs to the engine but it'll get more boost right?
welp, let me know what you guys think..thx

you will make less power and have a higher chance of detonation

The IC is there for a reason, to lower intake temps. Why would you take it out? This isn't a contest to see who can lower the weight of their car the most at the cost of performance and reliability.

Oh my god. Don't even think about it. You will have some major repair bills.

running without an intercooler is possible !!....you must use another form of cooling though....alcohol injection, nitrous oxide, water injection,...whatever!....they all do the job...

The boost increase you'll see due to less pressure drop from omitting the stock IC will be totally negated by the high intake temps that will result, unless you have another method of cooling the intake charge before it gets to the combustion chamber. Without an IC, your intake temps will shoot through the roof after only several seconds of 10+ psi of boost, leading to a very high probability of detonation. Which in turn will lead to a very high probability of major repair bills.

it works great if you run 107 octane and only do it up and down the strip ;-)

Are you kidding? "Running WITHOUT NO intercooler"

Besides it being a bad idea, can you say DOUBLE NEGATIVE?

Talking

Well, you could run without no intercooler just fine. But you can't run without an intercooler.

zerobanger talked about doing it with his water injection setup because that lowered his intake temps to ~20C at full boost anyways. If you have another method of cooling the intake temps it'd be ok, but I'd keep the IC as a backup anyways.

I'm the one who gave Zero that idea. He has a Blitz intercooler thats a little larger than stock. He wouldn't try it. I personally think his SMIC isn't getting the job done anyways. As efficiant as his WI is, he could bypass it with no problems. Lol. I told him that as soon as I got my WI set-up, I would bypass the intercooler in my car to see how things would work out. Since I've already done that intercooler/pressure loss test, I will have to buy a boost controller and port the waste gate first because on the turbo outlet side I'm getting 14psi and 11psi at the manifold. I'm not worried about my engine going because the 20b is going in early next year anyways. I'll let you guys know how things work out!

Edit: The lack of not having an IC can really be benificial to our rotarys.

Boy, talk about a negative reaction. How about posting some measured temps. input and output for SMICs guys. I suspect there isn't a real big difference. I know mine gets very little cooling air. I've often thought about using a water to air intercooler, as the intercooler only works hard for short periods anyway.

Since this is the spelling correction thread: AWESOME.

It's not a good idea to run without the intercooler for all of the reasons mentioned above.

Try something like this and I'm sure you'll notice a difference. A very overlooked modification:
