ruling out problems....water pump???
ok so i replaced my thermostat last night. wating for the gasket to seal. just was wondering, incase it wasnt the problem. Old thermostat seemed fine. How can I tell if the water pump isnt working properly? is there anything else that could make the car over heat? The coolant doesnt leak, except when it overheats (over flow tank) and i dont think i have a blown coolant seal, it doesnt smoke when i start it. thanks you again.

Smoking isn't always the first sign of a blown seal. The seal has to deteriorate enough to let quite a bit of coolant into the chamber to make smoke. Usually in the beginning stages, there isn't much if any smoke.
Now to the waterpump question, there is a "weep hole" on the pump. When it's failing, you'll see coolant/water dripping from it.

There's not much to the FD cooling system.
Have you checked all the coolant hoses to make sure none of them are kinked?
Does it help your temps driving with your parking lights on?
Can you tell what temps your fans are turning on at?
Have you tried running your heater on full to see if that helps?
Have you done a pressure test of the system?

I am fairley car savy, its just im extremely new to the rotories. i can tear my subaru apart and can understand and comprehend just about every part on it. My 7 is like reading arabic ( i have no idea). Just have not seen anyone work on them infront of me before. I learn by experiance. Guess im in for a big lesson.

I'm having the same problem. My coolant leven doesn't go down, no kinked hoses, new thermostat, fans are coming on and my car always over heats even in light driving.
I have no idea how people are keeping their cars operating around 84C
