RTV grey Silcon gasket maker for oil pan
I was wondering if anyone uses silicone gaskey maker to seal up the oil pan and not use the mazda gasket with luck? I talked to Ray Crow today and he said he has never gotten it to work. He said some people have though. My freakin Reman has 1000 miles on it and already a freakin oil pan gasket leak...wtf? Anyone get it to work like this?

Most people have had better success using only silicone (good stuff like Hondabond or Mazdabond, etc.). See this thread for some details:

What is this pan dimpiling procedure? I didnt quite understand and I couldnt find it in the search...would you care to explain? By the description, I take it you made sharp grooves in the pan by the wholes that dig into the block it self?

I actually used the Permatex ultra grey when I did mine. It worked great.
The dimpling is just using a small center punch to make a large number of small divots (like tiny volcano craters) in the oil pan mating surface to tie it to the engine when the bolts are tightened. These seem to help keep the pan from squirming around and losing its seal.

I used " The Right Stuff" that comes in an aerosol can. You can get it at Pep Boys, NAPA, etc. Many members swore by it. It's nice stuff to put on. No mess like RTV. You just press the nozzle and out it comes. Also, torque down the motor mounts when you install the pan and do not loosen them again. If you have the steel motor mounts, then rheem out the too little holes in the pan and put screws in there. They fit nice under the steel motor mount brackets. Others said to put spacers. Screw is much better. My rear side housing had threaded holes in those locations too. Also, don't use a gasket. My motor is not back in yet so I can't say if it will leak or not. But, accordning to other posts I'm confident it will be ok. Oh yes I did the dimple thing too. Just get a spring loaded center punch that is used for making starter holes for drilling holes. It worked great. I put dimples all over the entire sealing area on the pan and the block.
