^No personal experience with them, but looking at their website RotaryShack it sure seems to lack professionalism. "Buy some cheese from us motha *****"? Really? Do business with these guys and you get cheese? And none of the "read more" links seem to work. FB page isn't any more reassuring. Hard to tell if it's a rotary shop or a fraternity prank.

^ oh gosh, agreed. I thought you were joking about the cheese comment. I couldn't believe it was actually included on their website.
Professionalism is definitely a quality you would want doing business with anyone, and these guys are far from anything I would remotely want to deal with.

I was looking for other smic to compare this to. I found the greddy unit priced at $1,198.00
Rotary Performance GReddy Standard Mount Intercooler
and I found the PFR racecars smic for...... PFS medium stock mount IC, includes piping and duct $995.00
so, where can you get a good aftermarket smic for less that the cost of the R.S. unit new, I don't want some old beat up used cooler

So the retail MSRP for a Bell intercooler core in the following sizes 11.6 x 6 x 3.5 inches is $255, these are the exact same dimensions as the Rotary Shack SMIC core size (or at least close, the OEM unit is 11.5 wide). Bell part # A350116060
I made the following sketch in google sketch-up
So you would need a aluminum IC pipe OD 2.75 inches (2 3/4) a few inches long and cut it in half, prolly cost you ~ $10
I calculated the square inch surface area from the above model (minus the IC core) and the total surface area is 250 in², so you would need to buy a bit more than that in aluminum sheeting, thickness maybe around 0.1 inch...dunno this is just a guess. And preferably get some higher quality aluminum...
Take the above dimensions and give them to someone who can cut aluminum. My friend has a laser cutting machine that can cut aluminum, but only to a certain thickness...I have to ask him if he could cut 0.1 inch alu
Then you just have to find some one who can TIG weld it, if you can do it then its almost free, if you have a friend do it buy them a few beers
You could keep the costs of making this under or around $300
P.S. the above dimension are just a rough estimation...
EDIT: just realized I made the model with a core height of 6.5 instead of 6, but you get the idea
