My GOD...this thread is sooo entertaining. All of a sudden, ALL the major piston vs. rotors guys + rotary defenders showed up... it was like WWIII was about to erupt And for the record, Jim is DEFINITELY wrong...

Wendys definitely kicks ***

But seriously, Steve, I'm really sorry to hear about your engine. That SUCKS. I'm gonna call ya tommarrow BTW. And I think you should take ppl up on the $20 for a 5 min spin idea in your 20B haha. Forget tuning...the money's in the rides!! I've always held that FD's are a grown man's personal amusement park.

That's what I'd like to know also. After reviewing what it takes to complete the conversion in terms of parts and labor, there's no way the conversion can happen for that price. You could probably get a used 20B engine for that.

Glad to see Jim has toned down his anti-rotary rhetoric. Hahahahaha

I hope that Steve gives me a ride in the car when I bring my car to him this summer.

Yep, but it's a shame that you never have anything interesting to say...

You have a good reputation on this forum and the respect of the majority of the members, but lording your status over other forum members and disrespecting them will only damage it.

I do find it hard to believe that you can do it for less than $8k. Just parts alone to do it right for the conversion is over $20k and that doesn't include the hrs of labor I put into it to make it run.

Let's see if I can get close to your estimate from a list

20b engine $3500 (no rebuild)
subframe $1500 (build it yourself)
downpipe $400 (build it yourself)
stock FD fuel system $0
microtech LTX12 $1100
stock FD radiator $0
no i/c $0
turbo piping $200
stock cosmo intake $0
oil lines $300
clutch $500
aftermarket ignition coils $400
stock FD exhaust $0
labor $0

I guess you can build a 280hp 20B for around that much assuming you can do all of the work yourself

Now back to the thread..........

You guys get ripped on 20B's man.

I can get a 20B in my car for under $8000 (around $5k US)

Even better though is the 4 Rotor option for around $25k

Doubt they pay that much. When my friend and i built his
we only paid $2500USD. And that was in the US. I am sure they are much less expensive other places.

A subframe in NZ or AUS probably would only cost $500USD if that.

Remeber we pay alot for our labor compared to others and rotaries seem to be much more commen there per capita which means they are cheaper.

In my buddies FC i doubt it could have been done for less then 8-10K not including the purchase of the car.. And that would require alot of fab work done by ones self.

That also would be on the stock turbos that can't put much down. A good turbo setup for a 20B can easily cost you 5-10K.

what a bummer

Here I am all excited about a dream car heh heh.
I'm seeing all the right things and all the right names and then it turns to flames.
Dang, I really wanted a $20 20b ride. after that I'd prolly want a $50 ride with the boost turned up!

Zach,

Last fall, I was looking for some 20B's and all the sudden.. all the place that used to have them in stock, no longer had them.. I've called all the importers and ones that acturally had one were selling them for 3K+.. I believe 3100 was the cheapest I found last fall.

20B's are harder and harder to come by.. I've even contacted a guy in japan who runs an junk yard, who was willing to export engines.. He said it will cost me 2800 USD and all the tax and shipping fee.. total, over 4K.

The good ole days when you could pick one up for 1500-1900 on ebay are over. now, get ready to spend 3k+.
