rewiring ignitor to coil direct

as a common "maintenance" item considered by many , the ignition coil harness it often replaced in order to "cure" or prevent high rpm break ups

but what happens with the other 50% of the wiring ?

i would like to replace from the ignitor .. to the coils .. the 4 wires that travel between ....

what recommendations do you have as to the type of wiring to use ... 4
shielded .. individual 16 gauge ... .. i shielded cable with ... 4 16g`s wires in it ... ?

what is the ideal wire to properly transmit the dc pulse to the coils ?

thx

Probably the stock wires.... If recollection serves me correctly, there is resistance wire used in some part of the FD ignition harness. This is an important and integral part of an ignition system design, required for its proper function.

Resistance wire will feel kind of stiff and is often solid, so be on the lookout for it--I am positive that I spotted some in an FD ignition harness that I spliced into. If you remove it, then you will need to replace it with an equivalent external resistance.

that`s weird i don't seem to see any reference of a resistance wire ... are you referring to the shielding wire .. the extra ground in the old ignition harness ?

thx

No. I saw the shielding too. It's been a few years, but i def recall there was real resistance wire in the harness, probably on the + side of the coils, as this is where I would expect to see it. I also noticed that there is no reference to it in the service manual--as is often the case since it's an integral part of the harness.

I have been here a long time, and tore down 5 harnesses to the bare bones and installed three aftermarket MSD digital 7A ignitions and have never ever seen a stock resistance wire in the ignition circuit as you describe. If there was one there then it was never obvious. Condenser, yes, resistance wire, no. IF anyone knows of a resistance wire in this circuit as he describes, then show it to me....I am always willing to learn something new.
