Retaining Cruise control with Aftermarket steering wheel?
Has anyone done this? I was thinking of moving the wiring/switches to the center console switch area.
I wouldn't normally care, but I've got a 38 waist and in the FD my right leg gets cramps after about an hour and a half of driving time.

i did this. i extended the wires & relocated the buttons. i love cruise control!
i relocated it to the side of the driveshaft tunnel area, left of the shifter, where i can easily reach it with my right hand. i'll have to post pictures tomorrow.

That's cool Theorie...is this drilled or tape? I'm assuming holes somewhere? Would be an interesting experiment to use one of the blank CF shifter surrounds and design it to integrate the CC.

I made a bracket to mount it to the hub, then drilled a hole in the Daikei hub shroud so I could connect it in a way that would look clean. It's not the cleanest install and you can still see the wires going from the buttons to inside the shroud but it's not too bad I don't think.
I like your setup theorie, clean!

They're hard to find, but there are horn buttons that have the cruise control buttons on them. Plug right in, too. You have the main horn button and on that surface are 3 small buttons for the cruise control. Works great.
Not sure how hard they are to find, though.

I just bought a 99 Nardi Wheel from goodfella, and it looks like the cruise will mate up to that wheel with little modification. Anyone have a link to a picture that shows how CC is mated to the wheel in the 99-02 version FDs?
BUT what you want to do is find cruise from a Protege5 (maybe standard Protege, don't quote me)...
It will fit PERFECTLY with the contour of the wheel/airbag. But it may require a little TLC:
1) You will have to do some wiring to make it work, but it's very simple. And if you search wheel install for dummies (pureRX7 i believe) the details are in there.
2) You may also need to dremel out the plastic surrounding of the rear of the steering wheel OR you might be able to just swap these pieces.
We can't link to eBay, but if you search for 'Protege5 OEM Steering Wheel' a sell named 'LKQ' has one for $37 - and it's worth every penny.

I wanted to retain the cruise control connectors without cutting any wires to extend them for relocation. Just off of a hunch I recently removed my oem rear speakers off the RX8 and thought they had the same 2 pin connectors. I haven’t confirmed everything operational yet but the connectors off the speakers plug right into the cruise control for the Rx7. Figured I would post if anyone was looking to do this. I know there’s a few more threads with installing aftermarket steering wheels and quick releases.
Details or pics on that HKB hub? I don't see any pics on how the cc buttons work on that hub.

I think there are various versions of the hub, some have resistors to cancel the airbag light, some have cruise buttons, etc.
I've had mine for ages and LOVE it. The only "bad" is my buttons rotate so if you want them straight you just have to turn them with your fingers every now and again. Besides that, fit finish, quality, etc. are awesome.
