Question Replacing Engine Harness, dash connection questions (1994)

Hi All,

I recently replaced my old crusty engine harness (1994 cali car), and I had 2 questions about connections in the footwell. I bought a wiring specialties harness but I believe it is the same as the new OEM ones atkins sells. I contacted Wiring specialties and they told me if my old harness did not have the connector, to leave it unplugged.

1. Black 16 connector, with 5 wires populated. There is a dash harness that goes to the black box. From preliminary searching, I think this is the fan controller used to operate the fans after the engine is turned off? I think there was an adapter harness for the 93 cars, but mine is a 94 and I believe the new ones sold are all 94 spec. Should I use the engine connector or the dash connector?

2.
Single blade connector female. My old engine harness did not have any single pin blade connectors, however I spotted a floating female connector from my dash harness. The new harness has a similar female blade connector, but I could not find anywhere to plug it in. Should I swap the pin gender and mate these two?

Atkins picture for reference:

I just replaced the emissions harness of my 1993 automatic. My car had the fan recall harness. I was able to remove the recall harness and use only the new emissions harness. I was also able to get rid of the starter wiring harness that was used to eliminate the heat soak non-start issue on automatics. Overall swapping out the emissions harness with the engine in the car was terrible, but I am very glad that I did it!

Anyway, from my searches on the forums it looks like the single blade female connector was for testing the fan system, so nothing to connect to that. Leave it free.

As far as black connectors go, there are three black connectors total, from what I recall. Two are on the new harness, and one is already existing under the dash. Two of the black connectors go to the ECM (one connector is slightly bigger than the other) and one black connector goes to the fan control unit (smaller back box). The connector going to the black box is the same size as one of the connectors going to the ECM, but the one going to the black box has less wires entering the connector.

I wish I would have taken pictures but I do not recall having any left-over connectors after swapping the emissions harness. Also, there may be some differences as mine is a 1993 automatic. So maybe somebody else can chime in with more advice.

Anchaf, thank you for the reply. I decided them to leave them as is because I was hunting a few other gremlins from this harness. The biggest thing was the "HOME" and "TRIGGER" used for the crank sensor. Their support did not clarify, and after trial and error I found out "TRIGGER" is the top sensor (NE) and "HOME" is the bottom (G).
