The engine core will be the same between the years. The components around the engine will be different. Unless you also have the 99 Spec ECU, you'll be better off stripping the 99 Spec engine down to the core and transfer over your 92 components over to it.

Thanks Mahjik I have always been curious as to how this would take place as well.

Did the 99 harness come with the engine? I am in the same boat as you are. I should have a how-to in the next week or so with any luck. I was looking at the wiring on each harness, and the color coding is identical for all the sensors I could see. Your best bet is to re-pin the 99 harness with the 93 ecu connectors (yellow ones). I did however, notice some of the wires were in different pins on the blue connector and the white one.

I would think you should be able to use a JDM ECU with the 99 spec harness. You may have to re-pin the non-ECU plugs but I'm not sure. I would use a JDM ECU, and then compare the non-ECU plugs to see if the wires match up.

Yes i have the 99' harness and there is no match each other but i'll wait for your solution next week.I think that is more easy to strip all the components of the 99 engine and put them back adapting the same time my old harness of 92' and use my power fc for ecu.
Thanks Dan thanks Mahjik.

Mahjik....here is a little comparison picture. The only two connectors that match up are the blue and white on the engine harness. The two connectors that plug into the ECU from the dash are different from 93 to 99. The pics below should show what I am talking about more clearly.

I have see the engine from keep-on and it is for automatic transmition so it have some more connectors and one more ecu for trany.
It is worth to keep 99 spec emmision harness if you keep oem 99 ecu to have the new maps from mazda and run safe your motor with more power. But because the engine is signle turbo and keep-on use pfc there are no reason to keep 99 spec harness.I think the better way is to use 92 spec emission harness on new engine block and thats it.
Also the most difficult is to cross the wires from front harness to 99 connectors and from dash to 99 connector too.The emiision harness cross wiring I think is the easy job.
I have some pin outs I think can help

Then you have basically two options:

1. Keep the 99 spec components and re-pin the connections from the dash with a 99 spec based ECU
2. Remove the the 99 spec components off the engine and use your older components with your old harness & ECU

Yeah, I'm keeping the stock twins. You really don't need most of the stuff on the 99 harness, if you're going single honestly.
