Question Replacement Battery Choices?

There used to be some info on different batteries in the archive, but the search didn't find anything.

What are most people using for battery in stock location or in the Bin location? Intercooler doesn't matter in my case because it's stock.

Thanks in advance guys!

Do a search on 51R battery. It fits in the stock location, weighs 10lbs less and is about 1.5" narrower.

The last time I had to replace my battery I went to Costco and bought their brand (Kirkland) , which was about $25. Most places that sell batteries should have a guide that lists the size for your car. I don't live in a cold climate or have a mega stereo so the cheap battery works just fine, starts the car everytime even if I leave it for weeks, can't really complain...

Yeah costco battery is good, cheap and reliable. You can't find a better value for around $30. The CCA rating on their suggested battery is much higher than OEM also.

I had good luck with Interstate battery as well. Those are over $85 though.

A 51R is a standard battery for some Hondas. Any parts store should have one.

I have a few stainless steel battery trays that hold a 51R still for sale.

You can always go for 14.5 lbs. and get the PC680 Battery.

I really expected to go out to start the car after sitting several weeks and find a dead battery but it has always started right up. I do not keep a charger on it but over the winter I will. I have a changer, higher end head unit W/amps So I do use the power as well.

Your call, I had a 51R but it was 1.5 inches to wide for my new IC. Good battery though. Optima spiral cell batteries are great stock sized replacement batteries.

optima, but they are a little pricey, actually a little smaller than stock i think. i had to put some padding under it so i could still use the stock battery holder (too short otherwise). optimas are sealed so can be mounted anywhere in any orientation including in the cabin.

How do the Optima's stand up to the heat in the engine bay?

Thumbs up

Oh hey Jeff, didn't know that was you. I have one of Jeff's battery trays and the quality is superb. As soon as my Costco battery dies I'm going to switch over to a 51R battery and start using Jeff's tray. Probably a Costco 51R battery (its a 5th gen Civic fitment).

I got this battery tray from Jeff, and it is very high quality. It fits perfectly in the stock location, but is smaller. Very clean welds, and with the smaller battery a nice mod. Frees up room in the incredibly crowded engine bay, saves a few pounds, and the batteries are easily available.
