first off, just make sure you upkeep the car. Don't forget regular oil changes, i'd recommend every 3000 km and also, don't treat your car like a baby when your driving it. Rotaries love to rev, if you don't you'll kill it prematurly.

ya ive owned an FC for a while so i know a little bit about working on rotaries, but its an N/A and ive never owned a turbo car b4 so just wondering what i can do short of taking the engine out (which is the plan after a while) to make the car a better road racer. Some of the mods ive come up with are FMIC, new radiator (what brand is good?) stand alone from the start (again what brand would you guys recommend? haltech and apex seem to be popular...), intake and exhaust, wastegate (should i port the stock or get a new one?) and possibly some r1 or r2 oil coolers... can anyone add?? just trying to get around 350ish reliable hp

From the start, a FMIC isn't that good of an idea if you want to be a road racer. If you were a dragger then yeah, but for road racing SMIC or VMIC designs are the way to go. The cooling differences aren't that much and the pressure drops are far less. Radiators, Fluidyne and Koyo seem to be the most popular amongst the FD community. I personally like them both. Griffin is another GREAT radiator to use, though I've yet to see one in an FD. Standalone EMS units, the Apex'i PFC is a truly quality unit. I've seen it used time and time again with great success and rarely ever a drawback. The Haltech is also a great system, but I've never seen it run on an FD, only tons of FC's. The M2 intake and Pettit intakes are both great, though alot of people prefer the M2 because it's a true "cold air" induction. For reliability mods, make sure you get your DP, catback, radiator, and Efini Y pipe will really be nice instead of waiting for your stock plastic one to crack. Wastegate wise, just send your turbos to BNR supercars to get the Stage 3 upgraded twins. Those will run you about $2000 and you shouldn't have any trouble hitting 350 whp in sequential mode. Not to mention you'd still have INSTANT spool up and killer power which would be great for road racing. I know this is a LONG LONG post, but hopefully you'll find it to be helpful. Take from it what you will and ignore what you don't like, but I am just trying to help. Laterz.

with the VMIC (probably what ill go with now) do you HAVE to have a vented hood? will it make that much difference?

The vented hood will make a large difference, but it is by no means needed. From the looks of it, all of the air that goes over the radiator due to the resistance there will go straight to the IC in a channeling kind of effect. They will both get good airflow. It's also a great deal because you get a radiator you know is going to fit, right along side the IC and its a group buy right now so you save 600 bucks. (http://www.rotaryextreme.com/vmount.html)

IMO it is just as good as an SMIC if you don't get a vented hood to go along with it. I don't own one , but I read the 3rd gen forum a lot, so don't take my comments as definitive.
