Redline ATF w/ Dexacron II
Redline ATF w/ Dexacron II
I've got an auto fd. Is redline atf with dexacron/dexicron (?) II safe to use in the tranny. I thougt dex..... was a GM thing. I'm probably wrong could someone give me a little lesson on it.
From the Redline website:

Our most popular and versatile ATF, D4 is suitable for use where Dexron III, Dexron II, or Mercon fluids are recommended. D4 ATF is designed to satisfy the improved low-temperature requirements which will be in the new Dexron IV specification, and the improved shear-stability requirements exceeds the lastest Mercon V specifications.
Since the owner's manual states it's ok to use Dexron II, I would assume the Redline stuff is safe.

So long as you're going to the trouble of changing the ATF, I would just add this. In a conventional fluid dump much of the old ATF is left in the various nooks and crannies of the automatic transmission. Now, the better shops have machinery that will suck out most of the ATF and replace it with new stuff. If you're going to do it, you might as well go all the way.
