Darren, have you ever look into Stätus seats? They have some nice looking designs but I never looked into whether or not they would fit.

Much wider base, The ring model has 520mm base, versus the average 410-430

Its very comfortable for daily driving and easy to get in and out but i wish I could find a seat that's similar in the shoulders but not quite so wide in the bottom.
what mounts did you end up using?

So much wasted postings with weight bashers. I just read this entire thread for the first time and it could be 1/2 as long by removing all the B/S.

I too am looking for replacement seats on my FD. I am 6'1" 225and 36"waist. I got big from 9years of Army(11B) PT 5 times a week. Yes, its different than the yoga work outs all they weight bashers are used to doing.

I'm actually glad I found a thread related to the FD and seat fitment. I honestly don't mind squeezing into a seat as long as I can be comfortable enough to complete the task at hand, whether it be Driving or Racing.

The seats I am considering are:

Cobra
Misano S 13.3kgs(29lbs)

Corbeau
CR1 27lbs ($455)
Corbeau Forza

Sparco
TORINO 2

I'm really leaning towards the CR-1's, but don't know if they will fit. I plan on calling next month when I get back in the US for more details and possibly to find a retailer that has them in stock so I can "try them on" per say.
Below is a picture why I'm replacing the seats. I rather buy new than refab old when possible.

Kinda reviving this thread to say that I just bought a Cobra Monaco Pro V seat and had it put in my FD with a custom modification of the stock rail. I was going to go with a Sparco Sprint but this seat fit the bill and it was in stock. Great seat, pretty spartan, but FIA certified and supports a 5 or 6pt harness. I'm 6' tall and 210lbs, 36" waist, and i fit very comfortably in this seat.

If you're any smaller, you will swim around in the seat a little, so for bigger guys, i think it can fit up to a 38" waist. As far as seating position, it has much less padding than the stock seat, so it actually moved me down some, but also the seating position is more upright than the stock. Doing so freed up about half an inch on my knees and the steering wheel.

The seat would probably be a little more comfortable if i reclined it a bit more when we fabbed the mounts, but to gain that little bit under the steering wheel makes driving so much easier for those of us with long legs. I'll take some pics this weekend and post.

That looks REALLY good, thank you for the information! Do you have any pictures of how you modified the OEM rails?

Thank you

Hmm that looks nice, any idea if a set of the Cobra Suzuka pros would fit ? I sat in some and was shocked how comfortable they are. Just judging from the measurements I think if they fit they would be really tight.

Ironchef, how much clearance would you say you have on either side of the seat? Or is that seat as big as it can be without touching the car?

The bottom cushion looks almost non-existent. I'm almost the same frame as you and this is one of the seats I've been looking at for awhile. You say it's comfortable and it's priced right imo as well. Can't be the price with the cert too. Glad to finally see someone put this seat in an FD. Makes me giddy!

Just lose some weight.

Kidding. LOL Killed me seeing all the people that posted that seriously. Really?? Reminds me of how the AF PT test used to be. "If you don't have a 32" waist, we take major points off". Yeah, because everyone should be built like a little girl.

Anyway, I'm 6'3" about 220lbs and about 38" waist (I have no idea on chest measurement). I have the same problem with seats sitting too high. I got in Adam Griffith's car last year and I think I could fit with a helmet. He makes custom brackets to fit the seat directly to the floor, and Sparco Evo 2s. I already bought a set of the brackets, and I'm getting the seats soon. Like it's been said, he had to modify the wing that was touching the door on each seat, but I'm not sure this setup can be beat and the work doesn't seem all that bad. He said they're comfortable enough for long cruises too. I believe that includes cross country. By summer of next year I should be able to report back. Honestly, I'd like to at least have a reclining seat if it's going to be bolted to the floor, that way I can still get in the rear bins. But I haven't found a reclining seat that's side mount and/or FIA certified.
