Recommended Racing seat for the 'large and in charge' - aka fatass/wideass?

For road racing, the seat width should be approximately 1 inch narrower than your hip width, yes it is tight but it stops movement at over 1 g. Recommended way to measure, lay on side on hard floor and measure height to hip; this modeled body compression under 1g lateral loading. For the street or endurance racing, ease up some as it gets painful after over an hour.

FX1 came in today so I pulled it out of the box and did a test sitting . I think you can see from the picture I'm a fairly large guy. 6'4" 247lbs. 38 waist, 36" inseam 50" chest, 18 1/2" neck.
First thing it is a very good looking seat for the price. It is large; I had no problem sitting in it even with my wallet in my pocket (something I can't do in most seats). It is very comfortable, better than any other race seat I have sat in, which includes most seats made for large butts. It didn't take 3 people to remove me from it when I wanted to get up . Looking at it, I'm now concerned that it will be too wide at the base for the car. I plan on taking it over to the shop tonight and test fit in the car. I ordered it with the double lock sliding seat rail so I can let you know how that works out also.

Evo2 is smaller in the butt than this one, it was what I was going to buy until I sat in one. Evo2 Plus is pretty close to the FX1.
Shoulder Butt Width base Height Depth Weight
Evo 2 23.9 18.2 20.5 34.8 19.3 18.5
Evo2 Plus 23 17.4 20.3 35.8 19.4 19
FX1 24 19 21 36 21 20

Yeah, that is not right though, the butt doesn't lie Numbers were taken from the sparco site. They list the Evo2 for medium size drivers and the evo2 plus for large, so there is something wrong with their measurements. I can tell you from sitting in both, the Evo2 Plus is larger in the butt/hip area then the Evo2.

Found this:
The Pole Position is one of Recaro's entry level seats. Features a Fiberglass shell, well defined lateral shoulder support and harness guides for 4, 5 or 6 point harnesses. These seats work perfectly with all Schroth Harnesses.
A great seat for many drivers. If you are on the taller side, the harness pass-through for the shoulder belts may not be located where you need them to be. If you're looking to purchase this seat, your best bet is to measure a seat that does fit you to see if this one is within a spec that will work. Please give us a call and we can measure what we have here in stock.

The Pole Positions are very very similar to the RZ's, though, as Peter pointed out, nothing will ever fit as well as the RZ's, since they were custom made for the FD with the inner lower seat bolster sides being entirely cut away to fit the tunnel. I think they are also very reasonable. Maybe about $1600 +/- a pair with the fiberglass shells.

I just re-read your post...
Yeah, the Pole Positions are about $600-700 a pop.

Here it is, not as bad as I started to think after seeing it. I bought the seat with their rails. Paid $418 for the seat and rail shipped from Solo Performance.
First off here is a shot comparing the stock rail against the Corbeau rail:
Not a whole lot of difference between them in height or width.
Seat bolted on the rail:
The seat is a dark black, but the flash makes it look almost grey. The shell is nicely finished in a shiny black gel coat.
Here is the seat in the car:
The seat touches the car in 3 places, on the door at the wing and below the map pocket and on the other side at the transmission tunnel:
Lower Door:
Wing:
Transmission tunnel:
The seat is tall enough in the car that the wing is just barely touching, just enough to leave a slight dent in the leather. Where it touches below the map pocket it doesn't leave a mark when you open the door. The worst spot is on the transmission tunnel. It presses into the carpet about 1/4 in, but the seat can still travel back and forth on the rails. I still have to put the transmission tunnel cover back on and see if it touches more, but I think where it touches is in front and below the cover. Nice thing is you could cut the whole lip off the seat on that side and no one would ever notice.
The biggest problem for me is how high I sit. With the cushion in my head touches the headliner even without a helmet. If I take the cushion out, I can put on my helmet and it just touches the headliner. When I talked to Corbeau on the phone before I bought it, I told them I was concerned about how high the seat would sit. The guy I spoke with told me I could shave almost ½” off the feet. I think I will shave just the back feet, this will drop the seat a ½” and also add just a little more recline. I will most likely also need to change the padding in the cushion from the 1 ½”it is now to around ½”.
Over all I’m pretty happy with the fitment. A few minutes of cutting on the composite will yield a good fit for the car and more importantly a comfortable seat for me.

I didn't see where you would need to cut the seat.

One Japanese Recaro shown, whether the RZs are them - have severe doubts though.

Nope, talking about cutting the seat itself. Not much mind you, just a little trim here and there. The cover comes off with removing 2 screws and releasing the tension spring at the bottom. Most I need to remove in any one place is about 1/2". Don't want the seat rubbing holes in the interior. Once the cover is pulled back tight I don't think you would ever notice where it was trimmed
