Recommended Racing seat for the 'large and in charge' - aka fatass/wideass?

Rotary Freak
One of the cheapie OMP tubular steel models - Record - may be worth a sit. Clears with fixed mounts and seems to suit the generously proportioned gentleman. May not be acceptable vision wise if you are doing a lot of street driving.

Sounds like a good solution to get rid of passengers. I need to figure something out as well. I H-A-T-E how everyone that gets in to the FD expects me to give them a "ride"

Sounds like with any 'wide' version I'll have to cut the bolter and/or make brackets.
The corbeau brackets from researching on the forum will position me 1-2" higher than stock seats, that's not going to work, I need them about an 1-2" lower to clear the helmet.
The EVO2 sounds good, and shaving the bolster, and fabbing the brackets. So much work for comfort... sux for us big guys.

Can't find pics of anyone using the wide versions. Seem the standard versions are pretty tight.
I'd buy another door panel and "mod it" if it made it work....
Such a pain =(

Here is a picture of the Clubman on the passenger side, sorry it is not a better picture. Car was on the lift and I couldn't open the doors. I still plan on shooting pictures of the other seats when I can get the doors open all the way. You can see from the picture that even as narrow as it is, it is right next to the door.
Also included a picture of my 99 face lift !

Why don't you go on a diet? My friend had this same problem...he was (5'10'') 270+ and dropped to 180 to fit into the recaro spg xl. With that I put myself on a diet to fit into the spg which is the most comfy racing seat ever made. (IMO)

Not to be rude but your bone circumference is not 40inches and there is no way you can measure it w/ tape. Try losing 40lb and I grantee you'll fit into a nice FIA approved seat way better than you do now. I'v seen a lot of people similar to your specs at the porsche club events say, "oh my bones is too big to fit into the gt3 seat"...couple seasons later when they lost 60lb they fit into the slim size recaro...bone? Try losing the weight its free, healthy and can't hurt.

When I came out of the Marine Corps boot camp, I weighed 186lbs, not an ounce of muscle on me. Since then I've packed on quite a bit... BUT, even when I did weigh 180lbs I could not comfortably fit in most race seats. All my Honda buddies had their seats, etc, etc. Skinny yes, but the hips were still a problem. Most of my friends were around the same weight but hips were not as wide.
If I lost 60 lbs, I would be unhealthy, and 186lbs for someone 6'3" is less than ideal. My ideal weight would be 210 if I didn't have an ounce of fat. Even at 210 it won't make a difference.
I love how you tell me how my body is, like you know it so well? Am I getting molested in my sleep? Geezus man, I appreciate your "lose 60 lbs" comment... but I'm sure if you were talking to me in person you wouldn't say that to my face.
Keep the weight loss comments elsewhere.... this thread is for finding a seat for people larger than average but nature... not because they are out of shape. However, people that are may be interested as well.

In this case if the yard stick is 20inch the ONLY fia race shell seat you will feel fine in is probably the Sparco Evo 3 which does NOT fit into the FD. (unless unless you whip the hatchet trip out) The Evo 3 is designed for larger drivers (over 240lbs). It will accomidate a 38-42 inch waist. www.speedwaremotorsports.com/ will let you buy a seat test it out and if it does not fit they will credit you back $. (keeping in mind u keep the seat in perfect condition)
Keep in mind if you try and fit into a seat that is not designed for you, what will occur is slower blood circulation or pinched nerve and eventually numbing of the limbs.

My waste is 36, however hips are much wider. I was looking into the EVO2, but the bolsters are too larger as well. I think the only way is probably to remove the door trim and center console. Or just dump it at a shop and have someone do some custom work.

I order a Corbeau FX1 (standard) w/ slider today, will post pictures when I get it installed and let you know how well I fit.
Suspension will be going back on the car Saturday so I can get it off the lift, installed zerk fitting for my Unobtainium bushings because I was tired of pulling them off to lube .
I'll shoot pictures of the FX1, Pro2000 and Kirkey at the same time. Friend has another seat for large frames that he is bringing over also but I forget the name....maybe a Bride.
