recommendation on double sided tape for sleek headlights

guys,

Need a good double sided sticky tape, the lights on the RX7 are coming away. Its basically a perspex cover over the top of a black plastic surround for the lights, i need some kind of strong waterproof tape to hold the covers on. Im using mounting tape from B&Q at the moment but its not up to the job and the covers are coming away...

any recomendations anyone?

you reckon that will work? I want something thats not going to make a mess but still hold it solid, as the curvature of the perspex doesnt match the curvature of the cover totally, it needs to hold it pretty solid. I need to clamp it when i stick it too, so i dont want anything thats gonna squidge out the sides...

3M VHB tape. You'll probably have to go to a specialty supplier.

Yeah a few people have said about that stuff. I have found it, but it only seems to be available in 33 meter rolls. I need about 33 centimeters hahaha.

I used Scotch doubled sided tape. Its the same as the 3M only cheaper in price found at HomeDepot. It was called High Strength.

Plumbers Goop, It's like silicone, but it's a glue, and hardens to hold things tight, yet never gets completely hard, so it flexes with the parts, and you can alawys squeeze in some silicone to close any gaps you create... It takes about 30 Min to set, which is a pain with the RE Headlight set since you have to bend it to mount flush, but once on there, it's really difficult to get off... ran it on the track in 130+ Mph, and never had an issue....

Have any of you guys tried what I did, which is to heat up the lexan. I didnt like the thickness of the RE acrylic cover so I bought a thicker piece heated it up with a heat gun and it bent nicely to shape.

nope. Only problem is that if you dont heat it right or bend it wrong you'll see a shiny spot on the lexan. It wont really bubble but melt resulting in the shiny spots.

Body shops should have the 3m stuff. Make sure you line them up right. Once it sticks, it will be very hard to reposition them.

If you want something really strong go to a hobby shop and ask for servo tape. It's black and kind of like foam tape but not as foamy and not as rigid. Just clean surfaces with alcohol and you should be good to go.

I know what you're describing and the 3M VHB is stronger. For all intents and purposes the VHB is not a tape of any kind you are familier with; it's a permanent adhesive.

"Scotch" is one of 3M's brands. If it doesn't say "VHB" it's not the strongest stuff though. VHB will pull paint off of a car.
