I beleive the M3 is his wifes car. I brought this back because he's in the process of rebuilding a new motor and he did his own porting. I'm not shure if he started another thread or not. Oh, and a custom v-mount. She will be a pretty tight ride when it's finished.

Lol,

Here's the thread I started in the single section, as I've decided to go single only:

https://www.rx7club.com/single-turbo-rx-7s-23/gt35r-here-i-come-d-406183/

As for the M3, that's my wife's car. She loves it! I like it a lot as well.

I actually still prefer the 7. The M3 is an wolf in sheeps clothing. It has all the amenities, and it does almost everything for you. It's fast and very reliable.

But it's not a pure sportscar as the 7, in my opinion. (please don't tell my wife )

You know what is really interesting? I just pulled apart a brand new Mazda reman. It had new rotor housings, very good condition plates, and brand new rotors.

It had the same kinda crap in it, just not as thick. I wonder WTF Mazda is doing with these when they put them together. I wonder if when they put it together and run it, they re-use a container of used coolant that they test all reman engines they send out.

Also, I would recommend that anyone getting a reman, if they are capable, take it apart and re-assemble it. I found all that gunk in it, the oil pan pickup tube has a mesh on it and it was about half blocked with dried silicone/adhesive. The oil pump chain has way too much play. I know it's a pain and costs some money as you may need some new seals, but I wonder how much of the life of the engine was taken away due to poor assembly.

Wow...my project is almost identical to yours. So interested in this thread now...

Who's doing your PFC map when you're done?

Check the other thread, I will post most of the updates there.

I will probably start with a rough map from A-Spec. I am trying to get the car done in a month so I can go to a tuning session with Steve Kan. It's going to be very close.

If for some reason I don't make it, I will tune it myself. I have a place close by that will let me use their dyno for $100/hour, so I will learn how to do it !

Oh? A-Spec provides a rudimentary map? Sean never gave me one....care to share it?

I also tried contacting Steve via email but he's snubbing me for some reason. I'll try again...can't wait to see your project complete. We need some decent dyno sheets on the GT40R side.

I haven't gotten it yet, but yes I can share it.

BTW, it's a GT35R coming in. I decided on that turbo because of a few reasons: really good streetability, good track turbo, and small enough so that I can put on my air pump (needed here for smog). I'm not looking for the most HP possible, just a good amount !

Now for the really good and really bad news.

The good:

I have the Blitz FMIC, and all I have to say is it’s a quality piece and has an excellent design. The kit includes all mounting hardware, brackets, etc. One bad thing is I don’t read Japanese, so it’s going to be pictures and just plain figuring it out for the install. I am also debating on whether or not to try and turn it into a V-mount setup. (It seems too pretty to hack it up.)

I also have a new set of 99 turbos on their way. I considered the BNRs, and rebuilding my own, but since I am building a “stock” engine setup and from the numbers I’ve seen, the stock twins will be more than adequate for a reliable 13 psi setup.

Lastly, I found a source for the GT40R turbo by itself so I probably will build my own setup.

The bad:

The core turned out to be complete junk. Both rotor housings, the iron plates, and rotors are unusable . The engine looks like it was over-boosted or excessive detonation occurred. I have never seen such a poorly maintained engine. Most coolant passageways were blocked with what feels like a thick mud, and the remaining oil had the consistency of crude.

So the plan will change to building the “stock” engine setup from a reman engine.

I will use my current rotors and E-shaft for building the single turbo engine. I already have a set of new irons that will be streetported. I will need to get new rotor housings.

Here’s some additional pictures:

The person that sold me the engine is taking care of it and honoring our agreement.
that gouge is damn impressive, congratulate the guy that sold the engine to you
