Rebuild - Suggestions/Help

I'm in the process of rebuilding my engine. I shipped my engine off to a company in FL and the quote I got back was hard to swallow $4500.00. Damaged Oil Pan, Rotor, and Housing. . . . I'm trying to weigh my options here as to what my best bet would be to keep my FD . I've had it since 2006. We've come along way many joys and tears were expressed. I'm not sure I want to part with her just yet, but this rebuild might be the end of me.

Any suggestions or help would be must appreciated. If you guys think 4500.00 is fair or not please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

I think that is in the ball park. Your other option is a reman from Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda. I don't remember the exact cost but I don't think it will be much cheaper.

If you're in TX, you could have gone to RX7.com.

Contact Kevin @ rotaryresurrection.com. He can build you a nice engine out of all his own parts with ALS seals for around $3500.00. You can get a new oil pan from Malloy for around $160.00 shipped.

I believe a NEW motor, not a rebuilt from Ray is $4200 so $4500 for a rebuilt motor is probably not the good choice.

If you do get a reman from Ray check out IRP's website, they have opened up a couple of reman engines and posted their results there. I have also read that Japan2LA sells JDM motors with garanteed compression for under $3k I believe. Just cause the motor is blown doesnt mean you have to get rid of it either. Plenty of people save for a couple of years to get their car back on the road.

I'd be interested to hear what company he sent it to in Florida. Personally that quote seems fair considering a new rotor housing and rotor is needed + labor. There certainly are other options however as mentioned in this thread.

I didn't want to name drop any companies. I'll PM the company to you, maybe you've dealt with them first hand since you're from FL. They seem very knowledgable and reputible.
