To Rebuild or Reman????

Ok guys I got a Blown FD.
and I been waiting for almost 2 months
for a reman motor, due to backbackbackback orders.
Now I hear there is no ETA of when MOTORS
will be in so.. now..... I am at a crossroads.

wait for Reman????

or Get my Current motor rebuilt?

If you can give Pros and Cons on either
would be great..

Thanks

If you rebuild your motor, you can get all the right internals in there and port it. May cost more in terms of parts and time, but you'll know what you have in the end.

If you get a reman, you don't know what they will fix/replace, you'll have the stock ports.
It'll be cheaper and less time on your part.

One of the reasons there's a backorder on remans is that there is a large backorder on rotor housings, due to Mazda needing to produce more Renesis motors.

A reman is the same thing as a rebuild, just done (not as well) by Mazda.

Get your motor rebuild by a builder local to you. Price won't be much different and you might actually get to drive it this summer.

Check the regional section for builders in your area. I think Ractive is down by you guys as well as a few others. There is also a guy Chris something or another (search under user name GCThree) that does rebuilds in VA. He only works on one car at a time and is pretty meticulous from what I understand. More expensive though.

Good luck.

That depends on the damage to his current motor.

SlingShotRX7,

If money is not a problem, get a rebuild from a quality rebuilder (even if you have to ship the motor out of state).

I agree with Mahjik .... if the motor is REALLY old or has lots of damage, get a reman and go from there.

i decided i didnt want to wait for a reman, so mine is going to be getting rebuilt. I guess it all boils down to how long you want to wait to drive your FD.

Even if you rebuild, in most cases your going to need new housings, in which case you will be waiting anyways.

I ordered two remans (one for me and for my friend) from mazda and it was definetly worth it to go with a reman. They both turned out very well. I got virtualy all new parts and it has held up to A LOT of abuse drag racing and handling a bigger turbo. I would wait since everyone will be on a wait for the housings. But, I would not rule out a rebuild. Lord knows that I would have had my engine ported and the internals strengthened if I had the money at the time.

I already spoke with Demetrios, a while ago about
the work, and all set.. Only thing is.. NO MOTOR..

When you say guys say how old and damage.
I have no CLUE how bad the engine is. All I know
is that it has a 130K before it went.

When you rebuild, and strengthen internals..
What can actually be strengtened??
I know the Apex seals can, but anything else??
