Rear Orange Seal

So I've pulled my engine and doing so noticed I have a really bad oil leak coming from the rear of the motor behind the flywheel. I've been told it's most likely the rear iron oil seal. From the manual this points to it being the orange seal that seems to be there for absolutely no reason except that there is a hole in the motor underneath it(what the hell is the point of oil being able to get in there?). So am I right in assuming this is the seal I'm looking for? I noticed it had a really nice crack that could definetely cause a bad oil leak.

Sorry I just feel stupid right now and don't see the point of this piece except cause of the hole in the rear iorn please correct my ignorance.

going back to my post in this thread

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/bolt-bell-housing-engine-drenched-oil-800277/

that is what I suggested. You should pull the stationary gear out of the engine completely to replace the oil O-ring as well. both the main seal (orange) and oil seal (big, thin black ring) are cheap and now that you are there you can replace them easily. When putting it all back together, remember to add flange sealant to the inside of the flange that touches the rear housing cover (w/e its called). let me try to dig up another thread that will help you.

Thanks for the reply. It's kinda sad the orange seal wasn't even orange until I wiped all the oil off of it. I'll have to call up Ray and order both of these parts and anymore info to help is appreciated.
