really bad intake leak need help!!! please

Im having a problem with my fd, because it's only boosting 5lbs right now on both turbo's and there is a big hissing sound coming from the turbo side when I step on the gas. So im assuming it's a bad intake leak or there is a hole in a hose on the intake side. so I took off the intakes and everything is connected and I swear I can't find a hole in any hose. is there any way to find out where this leak is coming from? also I remember in my 2nd gen u use i think carb or starter fluid to spray around the manifold to see if the idle goes up to see if you have an intake leak. does this work for 3rd gens also or just 2nd gens? im pretty sure its a intake leak but this leak is really bad and a big headache cause i can't find it.

You can replace these couplings with silicon hoses and new clamps for a lot cheaper than OEM.

The original poster should check the "accordian" sections of hose. There can be cracks in these that are hard to see if they are in the groves.

Good luck,

Break out the yellow pages - most cities have rubber and hose specialty shops. You can typically buy sections of silicone IC hose DIRT cheap from these shops - granted, it will probably be orange and thin-wall, but it DOES work. A buddy and I got one for his FD back in the day for less than $10, I'd say. Take the bad coupler with you and they'll find the right size.

That's who I used and have been happy with the results. There are other alternatives out there is you search around.

Make sure you check your Y-pipe.

ditto with the Y-pipe. I pulled off the whole intake system last night to remove the hard pipe AC lines in that area, and before pulling off the hose to the middle of the Y-pipe, i noticed it had a 1 inch crack in it

start your car, leave it @ idle, pop the hood and take a look at your motor while it running. rev the motor while your standing there (twist near the UIM, where the throtle cable ends...duh) and see if you can notice a rush of air coming from somewhere. I had the same prob, turned out i had my piping come loose where it connects to the IC.

good luck

I found out that is the coupler that connects directly to the Y-pipe and I called lucky at hosetechniques to see how much it would run and I have no idea what size the coupler is. he recommended that it might most likely be 2 3/4 but im not sure I literally don't own a ruler. but does anyone know what size coupler I need to get for the coupler that goes to the y-pipe?

Funny, I am in the same dilema. I cracked mine last Thursday and i could not hear anything leaking it tripped me out. I stumbled apon it two nights ago. The same hose.

I have it ghetto fabbed right now until I decide how to fix it properly.
