I bought a master rebuild kit from Rotary Resources and I irresponsably lost my corner seals package . So I found 9 corner seals in my little bag of stuff from when I took my engine apart(I dunnoe where the other 3 are lol). Should I just buy 3 more new ones and clean the 9 old ones? Do they wear down in thickness or anything? I haven't checked the clearance between the seal and the apex seal yet but I will tomorrow if I can. Also if you'd like, I can take pics of the seals and post them up so you guys can see if they're in good condition or not. Or maybe spot something that will stop it from being able to be used in the rebuild. I just want to know if everything will still function properly... I kinda think of it as using a half new and half used bearings on a crankshaft. Some people do it but its suggested not to. But this being a rotary and all I'm kinda lost in space. I have a full set of corner seals here that are spare. I'll let them go for sheap if you need them. They are 2mm RA ones, come with the rubber inserts aswell.

How much we looking at? You live in the UK? Won't shipping be a big kick in the ***? It's about 72 from mazdatrix for all 12 not including shipping... probably around mid 80's w/ shipping. Can you beat that with a good price w/ shipping from the UK? Thanks for the quick reply.

corner seals are almost always fine to reuse. grab your calipers and measure them.. compare that to the specs in the manual.

Shipping depends how quick you need them. try getting some atkins solid seals. I did for mine thats why I have these spare

UPDATE: Height wise, compared to specs they're .003" below. But the protrusion with the new corner seal springs is about .060" and the min. spec in the book is .020". So is this ok? Should be right? I'll be doing side seal clearancing now I guess. Any input?

go slow!

i use 320 grit silicone carbide paper for most of it.

if you're lazy, a cutoff wheel on the dremel will speed things up, then do the last .001" or so by hand, but it's pretty easy to go too far with power tools. (don't ask me how i know )

pay attention to the angle and don't cut the seal crooked. it'll take a fair amount of time to get the side seals gapped properly, but just be patient. do one or two, then go stretch out or something. spend a long time on them and your engine--especially cranking compression, fuel economy, and vacuum at idle will thank you.

most of the time. i'm always very careful with them when i know the motor has been rebuilt before, especially on porte engines!! nobody seems to do the closing edges right and the side seals get chewed up.

wait a minute... he's talking of trying to reuse corner seals, why are you talking of how to trim new side seals?

I was talking about corner seals, then in one of my posts I started talking about beginning work on my clearancing my side seals.

And yes it is pretty hard, at one point I was at .002" and then after a quick touch on the 20,000 RPM spinning sanding cone, I was at .005" lol. You gotta be really careful doing this stuff.

So what do you guys know about the side seals from the Rotary Resources kit? I don't see any "chamfered" side. Or any different color on either side of the seal. So does it still matter which end goes into the rotor?
