Rave and a question

Hey, I bought a 93 FD touring in may as a birthday present to myself. While I was talking to the previous owner he mentioned that he had new turbos put in, but didn't know anything about them and would give me the number to the shop as soon as he found it. Well he found the number and gave it to me, and I called them up and found out I have 99 SPEC TURBOS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, my question is, with my current mods is there anything else I should get besides a PFC and commander?

My mods are: Greddy Airinx intake, catless downpipe, and full custom exhaust with a catalytic converter and the stock muffler, it's a 3" exhaust. The vacuum hoses were all changed to silicone ones as well. I just bought a boost gauge as well. I was modifiying for the stock 93 twins, and when i found out I had the 99 spec ones I didn't know if this would change anything as far as my afr goes.
My compression is fine, and I have no coolant leaks.

depends on your goals, pfc is a good place to start to avoid creep.

i want about 325, i'll go single if I want more, but right now i'm worried about making sure i don't run lean, to get to 325 i'm also gonna get a boost controller and a v-mount, as well as a new radiator.

past that: bridge port, single turbo, supporting mods

With the stock muffler things the boost is probably good right now. Get the boost gauge installed and don't upgrade your exhaust any further until you install a boost controller too.

The turbos themselves generally don't change things much. 99 specs are very similar to the original stock turbos.

+1^. That's definitely good news when a seller's claims are verified, but the 99 spec probably doesn't change things much.
With your mods, you really don't have to get a PFC. I'd replace the clutch and get a set of tires first if money is an issue.
Someone mentioned creep earlier. Shouldn't be an issue and I'm not sure what a PFC would do for it anyway.

Maybe a tune is in order just to be safe?

You can't tune the stock ECU... And if he gets the PFC, a tune is kind of implied...because what's the point of getting a standalone if you're not going to have it tuned?

Boost creep is a mechanical phenomenon - the wastegate is not large enough to flow the exhaust gas required to control the boost. No electronics, tuning, or fuel supply will solve that problem properly.

As long as the car has some kind of catalytic converter creep ussually doesn't happen.

ok my bad. with the pfc you can up tune to handle the extra psi from opening the exhaust.
99 specs are nearly the same.

the 99 spec turbos are just a little more reliable tho right?
can they handle any more boost than the stock twins?

no and no. 99spec turbos make slightly more power at 10PSI, but at 15PSI, the safety max for any stock twins, they are exactly the same as stock twins.

The only thing that makes them "more reliable" is the fact that they are brand new, rather than 15 years old with 40k miles.
