rattles and squeaks

how many rattles and squeaks do you guys have on your car? and what is the best way to get rid of some of them? Swap out the bushings? My car seems to have more than its share of squeaks and clunks and rattles....

Interior squeeks have been driving me crazy lately...you fix one and the other starts...

But the clunks that I had from the rear every time I hit the brakes were definitly from the pillow ball bushings.

I have a hatch squeak and some sort of suspension squeak. I have just learned to live with them, they don't bother me much. However, I would like to replace the suspension someday.

I had a rattle from the rear hatch also...I put some spacers between the rubber bumps on each corner and now it's gone...but just a little harder to close...

well.. i guess i'm not so concerned about the squeaks in the interior.. more concerned that some of the bumps and clunks are more serious - and could foretell something loose in the suspension or something. With the Saab, there are less "noise" so I can tell when something is wrong, but the RX has so many damn rattles and clunks and stuff that I cant what the hell I should be concerned about...

You need golub to crawl around inside listening for clunks while you bump over rough road.
If you find him, send him here too.

put electrical tape around your rear latch. it should stop the rattling. also put WD-40 on the rubber stoppers. also the same for the front, if you have squeaking under the hood WD-40 works great. worked for me.

Haha, that's what I do and that was what I was going to say!

BTW, I have a squeak coming from inside the dash somewhere; it goes away whenever I start turning the steering wheel. Anyone know where this is coming from and how to fix?

so the strange "clunk, clunk, clunk" when I'm on the brakes might not be my brakes? I just assumed that the rotors were warped or something but that didn't make sense given the noise it makes... hmmmmm... and I have a rattle from behind my dash...that one drives me nuts. (On a good note, I found out tonight that the noise I hear when I drop off the throttle from high rpms is not the suspension, but FIRE coming from my exhaust) oh yeah, and I think I'm gonna go deaf using the "turn up the radio" advice. by the time the radio overcomes all of my clunks and squeaks, the volume is reaching levels formerly reserved for jet engines and rock concerts.

get some spray on lithium greese and hit all the hatch, door, and hood joints. that took care of 50% of my sqeeks and the door/hood/hatch all open/close very smooth now.

clunks are a different issue, probably bad bushings. with ur car up on stands, grab a wheel and try to move it in one axis (up down, or left right), then the other axis...if it moves at all or there is any toggle, then you have some worn bushings/suspention links and they definelty cluck on bumps, turns or momentum changes

Plan on replacing pillow-***** every 30-60k depending on driving style. Spherical bearings wearing out is fairly typical on any car that uses them (not many on the street).

I use silicon spray for in cabin joints, and has worked very well...for the hood I put some electrician tape where it bolts (it was worn out, allowing it to sqeeks)
I have clunks as well, and have diagnosed bushings
Hope this helps

ha damn... wish mine was squeak free. With 11 years and 62k miles, I figure most of the bushings are old. Thinking its time for me to replace all of mine bushings out and replaced. Roar, how much did you spend to have that done? both labor and parts?
