Rat's Nest Solenoids

I'm in the process of building a new solenoid rack to go in my car, (stock sequential with all the emissions intact). Over the years I've collected a couple of used racks with solenoids purchased from the forum classifieds. Of course, not all the solenoids work or hold vacuum pressure, and a handful were also broken.

My question: Is it possible to use solenoids that look alike interchangeably? In a couple of instances I moved the filter to the opposite side to match the needed configuration. I've put the whole thing together with robust silicone vacuum hose, carefully testing for leaks… but now am riddled with doubt… The MazdaTrix website lists 5 different part numbers. Are the 5 really different functionally?

I really don't want to put the car back together and have weird problems…

Thanks!
Tom

All the solenoids on the rack work the same way. The only difference is the position of the vent filter, which can be moved. Some of them don't have the vent. The only different solenoids are the turbo control top top of the acv, the purge control, and the precontrol and wastegate solenoids which are the two paired together.

Yes, and you can pop off the filters and move them around too.

Also, 2nd gen RX-7's used the EXACT same solenoids. The non-turbo cars especially had them out in the open and not baked by heat - you can get them cheap or free from FC guys, and they're usually in way better shape.

The only difference (and why Mazda has different part numbers) is the filter placement (as stated by Ihor) and the colored dot on the solenoid for identification.

Or if you want a bulletproof replacement for your turbo control solenoids, I have for sale an Azeknightz solenoid rack. They are aftermarket 100 psi rated heavy duty solenoids with install instructions and pics :P. I had a set on my previous Rx7 and my sequential system worked 100% of the time I used it. A FANTASTIC setup! [\shamelessplug]
