rats nest question

Getting ready to replace the rats nest on 93 fd, have a complete new vacuum line kit. I just did some reading and see a few references to restrictors in some of the vacuum lines. Which lines and where do i get these restrictors to fit in the new lines before installing?

Thanks

By restrictions do you mean check valves? Or are you talking about the reatrictor pills in the two turbo lines? I would leave those alone...

You should contact Dale Clark and get some new Viton check valves from him, and replace those as well while you are in there

If you're talking about the 'pills', those are in the wastegate and turbo pre-control.

If you replace with OEM, those two hoses will come with the restrictor pills

Nope. You need OEM for those two. Forget the part no (it's one). Ray Crowe should be able to get it

There's also a check valve in one of the brake booster hoses. Most miss that when replacing with aftermarket

ok, will put those on the list for ray. I'm trying to order all the parts I need so that I can do everything at once. I need to replace my cracked exhaust manifold so that while I'm there I'm going to do all the vacuum lines that I can access while down there. I have all new studs/nuts, new crushwashers/gaskets for oil lines to and from turbos, cooling lines to/from turbos, will order those two hoses for the actuators, is there anything else that should be replaced down there while I'm there?

Thanks

If I could make a suggestion or two...
Obviously have the diagram handy.
Be methodical. It's called a rat's nest for a reason. I've even heard of guys using one of those cheap labelers to keep track of stuff.
Be patient. It's called a rat's nest for a reason. I did mine while the engine was out and still needed to walk away a couple times. Go slow.
If you haven't done so yet, do a search for ways to free the old, baked, 'harder than a wedding dick' hoses off the plastic nipples of the solenoids. With the engine out and much of the mess on my bench I used one of those thin cutting wheels on a dremel to carefully make longitudinal cuts in the hose over the nipples. Then a small bladed screwdriver to pop them loose. That worked best for ME, but there are other ways. Try 'em all but don't be disappointed if you end up having to replace a solenoid or two.

You can cut open the stock lines to remove the restrictor pills. Then install them in the new lines. Its a little frustrating but doable.

You should test all the solenoids and actuators (cold and hot)

and any other rubber bits (i.e. water lines)

restrictor pills

You can see the restrictor pills if you take off the lines, bend them straight and try to look to the other side. They were present on the stock twins off my '94 but not on a used set of '99 spec turbos I bought from a forum member.

I think I have an extra pair from the Atkins Gasket kit I bought for the rebuild. It's not listed in the part's list but they look like restrictor pills. I haven't cut open my stock twin hoses to check.
If not, I know I have the set from my stock twins in the lines. Let me know if you want them.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but that got me thinking about my rat's nest job I just did. I am installing the Azeknightz Solenoid rack.

A number of the vacuum hardlines are repurposed or disconnected (for example, 3 of 4 of the lines going through the LIM are no longer being used). There are also hardlines in the actual nest that have certain ports disconnected.

The thing is, the instructions for the install only have my capping off 3 of the hardlines. Did anyone else w/ the rack cap anything other than what's specified in the instructions?
