random plastic washer..need help

hi guys...
i was peering into the engine from the driver side/front and looked down into the suspension coil. I saw a black washer, about 3/4" in diameter that was just resting on the coil. I picked it out...but wondered what this could be? I hate seeing random parts where they shouldnt be.Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Eric

Is it plastic, metal, or rubber? is there obvious signs of bolt compresision... dust marks... stuff like that... and did you change the o- ring to the filler neck?

1st of all...thanks for your assistance
it's plastic....no signs of compression/stress
did have oil on it..perhaps because of were it was on the spring when i picked it out.
I didn't do any of the work...all done before i purchased by the previous owners tech.
does it look like an oil o-ring?

Ive never seen any type of plastic O-ring being used anywhere in the engine bay unless it was for some reason being used on those plastic wheel well covers, that would be the only plastic i could think of really...

Question

Now, I'm only guessing here but that looks like the "O-Ring" that goes to the "Oil Level" sensor, which is located on the drivers-side oil pan and opposite the oil drain plug/nut. That sensor is bolted into place w/three (3) 10mm bolts and can leak as the car ages. Mine was compressed much like the one you've pictured. My motor had 70,000 miles on it when it bit the dust.
