Radio Options

I think it is safe to say that if your car doesn't have the stock radio you aren't going to find one. With that in mind I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas for OEM-looking radios that fit the car.

Please keep in mind that I know all about the thousands of radios out there that offer bluetooth and other options but they all look cheap, feel cheap, and have stupid displays with colors and shiny silver crap. I don't know who is desigining the aftermarket radios these days but they suck as not 1 unit looks like it was made for any car produced in history.

I currently run a Miata radio (I think it was a 2003), with the Aux-Mod. Connect the Soundbot Bluetooth receiver and you have yourself a Spirit R OEM-looking radio with bluetooth capability.

I have the non-bose version so depending on whether yours is bose or not, you have to do some research to find the correct unit.

So you think a unit like this would work? Does it need anything else? I have non-bose.

No, it will not work. If you have a Non-Bose system, you will need to find a Non-Bose Radio. Also, forum member Fritz Flynn may have what you need, as mentioned by ptrhahn.

early 2000s, I think the 6 series Mazdas had the radio that matched later RX7s.
We did the Bose version, but I believe there were non-bose available too.

The ebay radio you posted is an older one. These are the ones you should look for (2001-2003 non-bose):

2001 Mazda Miata CD Player Radio Clean Tested | eBay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-2002-2003-MAZDA-MIATA-6-DISC-CD-PLAYER-CASSETTE-RADIO-OEM/172265776418?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D37183%26meid%3D684ed74d293e4c7cb86efd6037bf8daa%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D222084327159
There are cheaper ones (sub $100). Notice the 2nd listing has a tape/cassette deck. Those are removable. You will need to remove it in order to install Sylfex's Aux Mod.

Regarding wiring, please read and follow the Miata guide:
The Mazda NB OEM Audio System FAQ

It shows the differences between the years of the radio. You will need to buy an aftermarket harness to wire with the RX7 harness (very easy). Metra 71-7903.

Yes the early 2000's Mazdas also had these, including the Millenia and I think the Protege.
