Radiators of choice...

So, here's where everyone gets to share with the rest of us their thoughts on the various radiators out there.

and more specifically, I'm personally looking for reviews of the Fluidyne one that RP sells.

Fit, core size, etc...

thanks in advance to all...

I put a Koyo in last weekend, all I had to do was switch the mounting brackets and do a slight modification to them with a Vice Grip. From start to finish it probably took about 3 hours, that included some extra work like removing the water pump to replace my thermostat and having to completely tear everything apart a second time when I realized I needed to swap the mounting brackets to lower the radiator another inch. Now the IC and air box fit better than when I first got the car and I have a really nice looking polished aluminum radiator. It is an incredibly well built piece.

I am using a Fluidyne rad. I had to take a dremel to the fan shroud in order to make it fit. That took about 5 minutes.

I have noticed that since it is thicker than stock, the shroud/fans sit a little bit higher, and the intercooler duct (M2 Medium) sits higher and the hood holder doesn't sit properly now.

read top post that says "newbies"

Anyhow, there is now a 3rd choice PWR.

Fluidyne = exact fit
Koyo = less expensive but "not" exact fit.
PWR = don't know yet

I got the mazdacomp piece, about the same as the others, well made, no problems, with fan shroud and my M2 med duct. about 3 to 4 hours to install. it just costs a little more than the other rads is the biggest drawbacks.

Angry time limit, can't edit

Anyhow, there is now a 6th choice = PWR.

1. Fluidyne = exact fit
2. PWR = about same price as Fluidyne, but 2 row supposedly cools better.
3. Koyo = less expensive, some tweaking to fit.
4. SR Motorsports = higher price range, don't any know more.
5. M2 = higher price range, custom made for them, don't know more.
6. Mazda Competition = Expensive, no idea if it's worth the extra $.

my weapon of choice is koyo. I installed it this weekend. as far as there being some tweeking, I printed out all the threads talking about it, and the only thing I changed was the A/C condenser bracket on the passenger's side. I had to turn it around. the AC unit sits a little cockeyed, but other than that, it was fine. so "tweeking" took me about 5 min.

This
pretty much is a worst case scenario. All I had to do was flip the rediator mounting brackets and bend them a little

i have koyo. install was cake.
anyone should be able to do it in less than 3hrs. unless you are going to cry like a bitch if something doesnt fit right instead of figuring out how to make it work. i already had my AC out so no problems there, only with fitment up front. total was about 2.5 hrs start to finish includng burbing the system completely.

I'm running stock and I'm at about 180 and get up to 185-190 degrees F. in heavy traffic. I sometimes get up to about 195 degrees F. but that's when I'm boosting nearly constantly for 2-5 mins going up hill (with an incline of about 20-40 degrees), after about 20-30 secs though, it comes back down to a normal 180-185 degrees F. After such a run, I always give my car a 5-10 min cool down turbotime session and park into the wind for about 1/2 an hour to let the engine cool down. (Heat soak after I shut my car off rarely ever gets above 200 degrees F.)

BTW: I always have my fans on at least low power mode.

Ambiant air temp. for me is about 75 (at night) - 85 (at day) degrees F.

I think that any radiator except the stock one is the best choice...

I have the Koyo, and had no problems installing it. The Texas summers could spell disaster for my 7, but the Koyo keeps everything nice and cool!

Why Is Choosing a Radiator So Difficult?

The question of which aftermarket radiator is best for the FD has used-up too much bandwidth.

Just pick one and do it!

This is not a difficult decision. What mistake do you really think you will make by deciding on one over the others?

Anyone heard of a Griffin Radiator? I remember someone talking about going with a Blitz FMIC and just getting a Griffin Universal Radiator for like 200$.

I have installed two Koyos (on two differeeent cars LOL). Basically what I did was remove the lower bracket and bend the tabs that the radiator sit on to accomodate the extra width of the Koyo. There was also a monting tak for the A/C condensor (I think) that I had to dremel off. IMO, the Koyo is the best as far as price and core thickness goes. If you do not mind the little extra effort that is required to install the thing. I would also reccomend changing your thermostat while you have the coolant drained. It is just three extra bolts to remove the thermostat housing.

Hola, Manuelo me seniorita

You might want to check the below link as well in your search for a reasonably-priced rad:

Are you sure that site is working Rich? I have been trying to look at the Gotham Racing page for 2 days and I have not been able to see it.

Rich,

The Absolute Radiator Store charges $375, Gotham, $395...I presume both offer the same Koyo radiator for the '93 Rx7?
