Racing Beat and K&N - Damn!

Finally got around to putting in my Racing Beat Intake and replaced the paper filter with the K&N at the same time; bought them both for 40 out of the classifieds.

All's I can say is - DAMN; I've either lost my mind or this is a REAL good way to get some cheap HP; just when I was sort of getting used to my FD's speed/power, this addition seems to have given me a real noticeable gain.
Unbelievable for $40. Sounds better too.

Any comments, as in has anyone else done this and noticed a sizeable gain? Definitely a cheap mod that everyone should do that has a basically stock FD like me.

Almost forgot

TTPowered had sent me a tip on getting the "how-to" instructions off of Mazdatrix.com; thanks again TT. Full photos etc. made it a lot easier.

K&N filter is a no brainer

It's an excelent concept. The bad thing is that it's cheap material, too thin and flimsy, and will get brittle, crack and break from the heat.

It would be have been awsome made from Carbon Fiber or even fiberglass.

Real Deal Intakes?

What are you referring to? Is the real deal the same as the "ghetto intakes" and what are they?

I do agree that the RB is a cheap piece of crap..... when I actually saw what they have the ***** to charge 97$ for I was amazed........must be all that R and D work that went into the design......Hah........

I'm supposing the dual "round" Kand N's like I see in so many photos?

I guess the only question is what difference does it make to be sucking in all that hot engine compartment air versus from the front air dam?

Any opinions?

Can you put the racing beat inlet in with the K&N home made intake?

m2 makes a great intake...pettit makes an excellent intake in terms of function but it looks home made....

rotary reliability and racing is also beginning to manufacture intakes...theirs are almost a blend between pettit and m2 in terms of looks and function.

RE inlet temps...

just as cars run stronger on a cool or wet day the inlet charge temp does make a difference. I have forgotten the formula however, it is something like for every 10 degrees of lower inlet temp you gain 1% horsepower. If any one has formula please post it for all to gleen. This is also only one reason that upgraded IC help our TT'S.... as is reduced backpressure on turbos ans Quality of air charge.. Carter

I had the K/N filter with the RB inlet for a while. I also paid $97 plus $60 for the filter....I was stock and wanted something - and that was cheaper than all the other intakes. I was very happy with it - quality sucked but so do many of the intakes that sell for $350. If you are planning on staying with mild bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, and dp) then stay with the RB. Even with a ecu and upgraded Blitz or Greddy smic you can keep the RB intake and put down some serious numbers and keep a stock look. I'm all about cheap mods I'm sure it's good for 7-10 rwhp.

Works great for me. Good kick for the $. Just don't silicon it together. You'll be sorry the first time you need to remove the intake or take out the intercooler.
