What challenge? I know plenty of people with naturally aspirated drag cars that would make you look like you were dragging an anchor behind you. Get over yourself, Ern. It's not very becoming.

I also noticed once I stopped being such a bad ***, my tranny issues went away. Give it a shot, it might work out well for you.

If your interested in a Modified 2nd/3rd Gen Tranny I can help you out if your interested let me know. I modify them for my own drag race application. Basically what we do is rebuild the tranny and put larger bearings and turn the stock tranny into a semi-clutchless unit. The tranny is still streetable but, you can bang the gears all day long. You still need the clutch but, you don't have to push it all way down to the floor to speed shift. I ran a setup like this with a turbo drag car and now the same type of modified tranny is in a all motor setup I just completed.

- clutch fork (stronger to last longer and/or handle heavier PPs)

I suggest you get these parts installed, and then wait to see if you grind it up. If so, then maybe worry about upgrading it.

who makes the upgraded clutch fork? i was just thinking of having a fresh one cryo'ed.

Anything is possible with enough money... except that the T56 from the C5 Corvette is a rear mounted transmission and doesn't have a bellhousing to bolt to an engine. The T56 from the Camaro, Firebird, Viper, and Mustang Cobra are all possible options, however.

that's right, i forgot that the C5 has a transaxle. that'd be something that someone should look at...how hard it would be to make a bellhousing to hook the camaro/firebird/viper/cobra tranny to the 13b

Actually, it's not a transaxle. The differential is separate from the transmission and bolts to the rear of it, coupled by a short input shaft.

They come with bellhousings. The following would be the absolute minimum required...
  • an adapter plate to bolt the transmission bellhousing to the engine
  • a clutch that matched the spline pattern of the input shaft of the 6-speed
  • a flywheel that matched the bolt pattern of the rotary eccentric shaft and interfaced with the starter
  • a transmission mount
  • get rid of the PPF or find a way to bolt it to the transmission or mount in order to support the front of the differential
  • adapt the 6-speed's slave cylinder to the RX-7 clutch master cylinder
  • possibly modify the floor pan and center console for shifter location
  • shorten or lengthen the driveline as required

damn, the wealth of knowledge that you have astounds me. Do you personally (none of that "anything's possible with enough money" bullshit) think that it's possible, with access to CNC and CAD/CAM equipment to pull it off, or would it be too much work for what you get out of it?

Haha, that's just a list of every single interface point between the car and tranny. You'd better have one amazing engine to drive those wheels (and amazing diff, etc) to justify all that work.
