R2 Q's?

some r2 questions

1/ somewhere i read mazda only made 350 r2's...
is that right?, or only imported 350 into usa or something...

2/ the cloth in the seats on the r2's i've seen is a kind of lumpy cross weave...haven't seen it on any other model, is it only found in the r2?

3/ 93 models i've seen have chrome instrument bezels and lots of white speed/rev markings, the r2 has black bezels and fewer speed/rev markings, any other subtle differences? besides the different damping rates we all know about

1.) http://alecto.bittwiddlers.com/vehic...-numbers.shtml

1994 - 395
1995 - 57

There were 350 CYM R1's though.

2.) R1 & R2's have suede-like seats for higher grip

3.) I've never noticed a difference.

CYM was a '93 only color and was only on the R1s
All the '94-95 cars have the cleaner hash marks on the dash and heater controlls

"Lumpy cross weave" sounds like the cloth seats found in the base model. The R model suede seats feel exactly as the name implies: suede. And it only comes in black.

All 94/95 model years' instrumentation (tach/speedo) have fewer hash marks than the 93s, not just the R2s. And all of them should have the chrome bezel.

ok thanks guys

so to summerise, just over 400 R2's were imported into the usa but obviously many more were made for japan etc.

it looks like all rx7's changed to the less cluttered inst. markings around 1995 but usa R2's kept the chrome bezel while the japanese models went black

the seat material is also another difference, here is a url from yahoo auctions japan showing the seats and cloth

um yeah, I have a '95 base model and that is what my seat looks like. The R2 as the others have said use some kind of suede material.

my R2 seats were re-covered by the previous owner. it's basically the same pattern shown in the pics above. although when they were recovered, *i think* he had the hole below the headrest covered. i really like it though.
