Questions since rebuild

I had my rebuild done a short bit ago. I am about complete with my 1000 mile break in. No boost, and a Rev limiter set at 4.5k. I did an oil change at 500 miles as recommended. The engine had a medium sized street port.

The few questions I have. Like all rotarys its burning oil, but how much is average, how much should I be adding and how frequently in between changes.

Secondly, the car is not driven terribly often but occasionally on cold starts there's a few seconds of white smoke from the exhaust. I have read it's a possible coolant seal issue but the motor is new so I'm hoping that's not the case. Possibly condensation, but it is usually warm here. Does anyone know the cause of this? Is it normal? It did not happen with my old motor only since the new one was dropped.
Could it be the porting?

do you have an OMP?
how cold is a cold start?
how much oil have you've been adding?

Sorry here is a list of all engine related mods.
13bREW large street port - ~1000miles. Built by Addicted performance installed by lucky 7
Greddy SMIC
Aluminum AST
Aluminum Radiator (unknown brand)
RE - Ti Catback
Stock cat
Stock DP
Adaptronic ECU - Currently set w/ a 4.5k rev limit and idles about 1.3k-1.4k

In regards to the oil. I changed the oil about 500 miles ago, since have put another qt in. and due to oil pressure gauge reading low I imagine it could use another qt about now, but will I will be changing it again when the veh goes in for its tune now that break in is complete.
It typically happens after a couple days without running. The most recent example was on Monday. It had a few seconds of white smoke from the exhaust, the last start up prior to then was the Thursday prior.

if its a few seconds i wouldnt be too worried.. are you using the adaptronic map sensor? and you have it set internally in the programming? are you premixing?

Have you checked your compression?

I'm experiencing the same thing. Have a new rebuild (500 mi) with large streetport. It smokes on startup then settles down when it warms up. I have good compression so I'm thinking it's the premix or it's out of tune (am running stock ECU)

As far as the adaptronic. I do not really know what was done to it. I purchased through Lucky 7 while they were dropping the motor in and they had set everything up for me but didn't really go into to much detail. They just said theres a limiter set at 4.5k and to stay off boost and bring it back when your break in is done (1k miles) to complete the tune. I personally wont be going back for other reasons but that's where im left with that.

As far as compression the motor was on the lower end of the tolerances but still within Mazda's recommended range when I brought it in initially but was assured by Zach from addicted performance (the engine builder) that the compression would grow upon break in and was a little low due to the used rotor housings. I have not had it tested since.

And no premixing at this time. using 91 pump gas

And to clarify the smoke only happens for a few seconds on cold start ups typically after a couple days without running. Once the veh has been warmed up or has been driven within that day or 2 there is no smoke.

I wouldn't be worried if it is just on start up for a few seconds, are you running the OMP, if not you must use premix.

Everything sounds fine.

You can also talk to your engine builder and your engine installer.

I have people contact me frequently with questions on break-in, fresh rebuild advice, why is my new engine doing this, etc...... I understand the need to solicit multiple opinions, but my thought is this--- if you trust someone to do this work for you and you pay them your money, why are you coming to me for free technical advice? I've never understood that

I had similar issues, still do a little bit on my break in miles as well. I was searching the forums quite a bit, didn't want to bother my builder to much as he was already really patient with me. Finally I asked him if I was being a paranoid rotary owner, and he said yes! LOL

Could be a lot of things from the smoking. Fuel smoke is a very good possibility. Just message us. We are here. And LORDY. PREMIX. NOW.

Could be coolant enrichment from being cold in the tune too.

And a good Break in tune Is a very important thing btw.
